I usually let them take the lead till I see what they have. If they are fast and fun I just follow. If they are slow I will go past them and pull them along. I dont mind skiing with someone of lesser ability as long as they make me laugh on the lift. I draw the line at slow and no fun.

i cant name one person i've skied with from here that i wouldnt ski with again. I've had a couple terse volleys with Mattchuck but the guy was totally cool to ski with and he kicked ass too. that was probably as close to an uncomfortable encounter i've had..

Indeed . . . Although next time I'll ski Alpine, throw the Octograb 3, and accept donations to the newly founded Church of mattchuck2. All Hail the Terrain Slayer. :-D

As far as skiing with new people, I'd prefer to go first, rip the run, and watch from the bottom. If the people I'm skiing with end up right behind me, then that's good . . . If I have to wait awhile, that's bad. I don't really care about people's technique, it's more about keeping up on solid terrain . . .

The only time I don't go first is when it's someone else's mountain. Then they get first shot (mostly because I like to see if they duck in anywhere).

I really enjoy meeting and skiing with new people without competition or passing judgement. Of course it's only natural to gravitate toward those with similar interests.

I do tend to shy away from those who insist on constantly seeking out groomers when there are other options available.

Wow, I sound gay.

I much prefer older people who can ambulate, put their own equipment on and can toilet themselves. They are much less prone to drooling too. Well, except GSS.
New people cry and spitup too much on the chairlif and it's difficult to get the stroller into the lodge.

I like meeting and skiing with new people, I don't look at it as a competition , just a fun outing and I try to keep up and not look to bad, if they ski better than me, good news as it will push me to ski better and I will learn a thing or two. If I am the better skier, I will try to keep it steady and at a pace that my new friend keeps up.

Bam! Dead-on Darent.

I've done competitive elsewhere in my life. This is relax and enjoy time for me.

I suppose if you're a competitive person...or for whatever reason you like the lead-off spot...that's your way of enjoying (maybe not enjoying AND relaxing).

I'm more relaxed out front and enjoy myself more...of the group I usually ski with, I'm the longer raduis, higher speed guy. Much more relaxing for me to know I can let them run and not have to worry about checking my speed or hitting the brakes because of the folks in front of me. When I'm new to a group I'll bring up the rear...but I'll leave a lot of room so I can ski at my pace...I like to let the terrain dictate my turn shape, not the people in front of me.

Yeah some people I ski with don't appreciate being used as human Slalom gates..8)
