Lincoln, like Killington is another town you don't want to drink and drive in. Stowe is not too far behind these days.

If you stay close enough, you don't have to drive. There are accommodations within walking distance in all price ranges -- including being able to stay at the Woodstock Inn itself.

I have been searching for a ski resort in New England that not only has great skiing but also has nightlife. When I say "nightlife" I am talking about restaurants/bars that are in walking distance from the resort.

If you don't want/need many choices within walking distance, then many eastern resorts will qualify.

Ideally, I would like to lodge at the base of the mountain, walk to the chair lift, then be able to walk down to the "town center" or "main street" for food and drinks. I checked Killington and was very surprised to see that there really isn't a town center or main street Is there anything in New England that closely resembles Breckenridge??????

I used to live in Breck, and feel your pain. Sorry. There is no eastern equivilent. (I haven't been to Lake Placid or Tremblant for complete disclosure) I have skied all over Vermont and most of New England. If you want the best nightlife, with a modicum of transportation required (there are shuttle buses and taxis) go to Killington hands down.

But even Breck is a fair walk from any of the peak 9 base lifts to the town.

Breck has a town 5 blocks deep by a half mile long. The architecture ranges from old western wooden storefront buildings to new. The mountains ring the town. Alpen glow turns them pink in the late afternoon. There are sidewalks both sides of the street, gas lights, and people walking everywhere. Many nights are star lit. You feel the mining heritage and the history.

Killington is a mishmash of buildings much more spread out on the access road. Nothing was built before 1958, and most was built in the 60' & 70's. There is no depth to the town, the one street is it. There is no history there. Very few people are walking from place to place. It's usually cloud covered.

So just flush all those Breck expectations.

However, Killington does have the best and the most numerous choices, and they are all in close proximity.

Even if you stay in the Snowshed base area and ignore the rest of the access road, you have Ovations, Santa Fe Steakhouse, a restaurant that might reopen in Mountain Green, Cascades pub, all within sort of walking distance of the lift.

Stratton has a cute mini village, but you said "great skiing" That sorta leaves out Stratton. The nickname is Flatton.

Woodstock Station/Brewery is pretty cool. A little closer to Loon is The Common Man with an uncommon menu. There are also a few spots in the "downtown" between Loon and Woodstock Station. Bonus is that Cannon is not far away for skiing as well.

Be forewarned though.Just as Killington road is patroled by the VSP,the Woodstock PD sit right next to the Station and bag incredible amounts of DUI offenders.I found out firsthand 6 years ago.

I think the best place anywhere in the east for nightlife, ski on/ski off and eating is Mont Tremblant. There are plenty of deals to be had from people that own condo's on the mountain. A group of 6 of us went up there 3 years ago and spent the weekend including lifts (president's day weekend) for $250 each. That's 3 nights 2 days of skiing w/ lift tix....

Has the easiest and one of the best apres skiis in east if not the best. I have yet to see one better in the east... This includes, Jay, whiteface, sugarbush and killington.

the issue is getting up to Tremblant as it is a north east of montreal... But definitely driveable from NYC. 8-10 hours from here. But a straight shot up 87.

I don't know if I'd qualify it as "nightlife," but Bolton Valley has an Inn at the base that has a bar and a couple eateries in it. You don't even have to go outside.

Also, Mt. Snow has the Grand Summit hotel which has a bar/restaurant in it that often has live music, and then the main apres bar is just down the hill (the Snow Barn), easily walkable. There is also a bar in the main base lodge for the first couple hours after the lifts close.
