For a while, I've considered getting into skimboarding. In the summer, bodysurfing is my first love and I love being at the beach, but when I get there and there are no waves, I don't have a lot to do besides throwing the frisbee. Does anyone here skimboard? I'm 6"3 and 193 pounds (thin to average build). I've been slimming down from 205. I think I've decided on a large, wood board. Does anyone know of any Southern New England shops that sell quality boards without a huge markup? Can anyone recommend any specifics with regards to size and shape of the board?

I'm also considering getting back into skateboarding, as there is an adequate skate park in Marlborough, MA and a new one coming into Hudson, MA (my town). I wonder if I should get a vintage-style deck like I used to ride in the mid-late '80s/early '90s or if I should try to get a modern deck. Do all the modern decks have tilted fronts (so you can ride and do tricks in either direction)? Any recommendations for a tall guy with size 12 feet like me? I will be keeping it basic...riding 1/4 pipes at the most.

Edit: Sorry, maybe I should have posted this in the Gear and Equipment Forum. Mods, feel free to move.

I ended up buying a "Classic Woody" (XL size for my weight class) skimboard from Victoria Skimboards in Laguna Beach, CA. I hope to be able to try it a couple times before it gets too cold out.
