After great skiing Friday and Saturday morning at Sunday River, my skis were stolen from the racks in front of Barker lodge Saturday afternoon 11/22/08.
They were 04-05 Volkl Gotamas 183's (black w/red Volkl lettering on tips, and Gold buddha on the tails), with Marker Comp 1400 bindings (black and silver) along with a pair of adjustable Black Diamond Poles (aluminum w/black lettering, and a whopload of scratches)

If anyone happens to know someone who took them by accident, or happen to find your friends or teens with a 'new' pair of older twintip powder skis, returning them to Sunday River as 'found' or contacting me would be greatly appreciated, moreover, no legal action will be taken on my part.

They have been reported as stolen, and FYI the value of skis, bindings, and poles, is well over $1000, e.g. felony grand theft.

I'm willing to offer a reasonable bounty for their return, as well.

Please PM me if you have any further information.

I'm sorry for your loss..were they locked up? I don't believe their worth over $1,000..even brand new..maybe a couple hundred..apparently homeowners insurance will cover stolen skis..

Terrible.....I always split my boards up when I go in for the day. However, the longer I stay, and the more people leave, I always fear it's a matter of time before someone eyes where the missing piece is.

Sorry to hear that. The loss of Volkls is like loss of a family member...

What type of license plates did you see in the parking lot on Saturday? (I always seem to notice that). I'm not trying to cast aspersions, but it might give some clues as to where to be looking.

The difficulty I would have, if I saw a pair of those being skied, would be, what could I do or say?

I'm amazed by how many people still don't lock em up. I bet most stolen gear prolly end up on Ebay or for sale/trade. Some of these rats prolly raise cash for skiing/boarding that way.

Dougie, thanks for your 2cents... (sigh)
Skis retail: $800
Bindings retail: $250-$300
Poles: $70

Still, well over a grand to put together a similar package today.

Not a homeowner, or I wouldn't even bother attempting to get them back by posting in forums, I'd just wait for the insurance com

No kidding. You and your "flatlander" stereotypes are getting really pretty old billski. There are assholes everywhere...

Anyway, bummer molecan. Hope you can recover them.

I'm not certain he's making a stereotype, but I'll let him defend that. Perhaps he simply means if there were a lot of Rhode Island plates, pay closer attention to craigslist there?

I have always had the impression over the years that the majority of gear stealing is done by locals, many of whom aren't skiers. I remember reading a couple of articles on the local paper while growing up skiing Okemo. I also met one such kid at a party in High School and his thought process was, they're from the south, they're rich and it won't be that big of a deal for them to replace them. Vast majority of vacation home break ins were also locals.

Who knows, it could be anyone. Like you said, assholes everywhere......

Hope you get your gear back molecan.

Silly me, that's what I thought he meant.

Perhaps. And if that's the case, I sincerely apologize. I based my assumption on billski's clear disdain for flatlanders as he calls them. The irony of it all is that Lexington, Mass. is pretty freakin' flat.

I've had 2 pairs of skis stolen, including one pair on Christmas Eve. I never ski without a lock now, even the cheapest one will at least slow them down. I was at Banff on a ski league trip and we had a dinner on the mountain and I'd locked a bunch of my friends skis together with mine. When I came back I found the whole tumbler section had been punched out of the lock, but fortunately nothing was missing. I seem to recall that Sunshine Village had "Wanted" posters with a $1000 reward if you caught a thief. All I can guess is that someone interrupted the person working on my lock.

In addition to eBay I'd check Craig's List.

Question about the eBay and Craigslist searching. Say you find them there, what action can you take? Are most people able to recover them if they spot them for sale online?
