I just paid $40 shipping included for 5 pairs of SmartWool Socks. Originally, I was just going to buy one pair online (which I do at the start of every season since I use Ultra Lights and they only last two season each). But when I stumbled upon this deal, I figured I'd stock up  The new "PhD" variety of this sock sells for $16.95 each but I paid $10 less per pair!

Check it out:

Delivered within three days of ordering... and I ordered after shipping would have been sent out on the day I ordered, so it was really a two day turn around time. Can't turn up deals like this!!!!

Didn't see any PhD socks on the discontinued page and all of the ones I'd look at were only in sizes S or XL...oh well.

Yea, these are last year's models. I have no idea what they changed about the sock besides the name. Probably not much. At least not much that is truly functional and not marketing gimmick. Who cares about the PhD? These are more than 50% off! Too bad they don't have your size. Check around though, since this whole PhD thing came out, a lot of places are dumping the old name. Can't believe they only have S and XL up for sale. Usually sock sales are the exact opposite only having M and L. I have never gotten socks on sale before, much less more than half off.

Those are good prices! At the tent sales in VT, they usually go for $10 or so. I picked up a pair last weekend.

Thanks Steve, I just picked up a few pairs of the Ultra Lites. I should be set on socks for awhile. :)

They only had XL left when I ordered.

Quality of the vendor or the sock? The product was shipped to me within two to three days as ordered so the retailer seem legit. As far as the sock, I swear by SmartWool Ultra Lights. Though due to the abuse I put them through, a pair only lasts me two seasons. But I ski 50 days a year and do a lot of touring/hiking with them too... and heck, they are Ultra Lights. I am sure the regular weight ski socks are much more durable. Great sock that rarely goes on sale and you won't find a better sock for less money.

Not that it really matters to me, but in my case it took them 2 business days to ship. I ordered the socks around mid day on Friday and they didn't ship until late in the day on Tuesday. I'm hoping to get the socks today. It's not exactly slow service, but it's not the super fast service that Steve received either... I'm not sure which is the norm.

Did I read correctly on here that Smart Wool will be discontinuing the Ultra Light? I thought I read that somewhere. I picked up a few pairs this summer, but might stock up even more if they will no longer be producing them.
