From Jay's website:

4th update of the morning here at 11:30am. Heavy snow continues here with 3-4" on the ground since 7:00am. We're into a bonus-snow period as, technically, this isn't part of the bigger storm that's forecasted to whack us later today and tonight.

We'll be opening things up this Saturday with at least the Jet and Haynes trails for upper intermediate and advanced level skiers and riders only. Could be quite a bit more if the white continues to drop as heavy as it is right now (11:30am)

Can anyone add some color??? I'm well aware of the Jay marketing hype and just want to know if it's really dumping up there and will it be worth the hike this weekend...

not hype -

I live and work 15miles from the mountain, we've had snow all morning in town

I know one of the state plow guys through a mutual friend, they were plowing 5"+ off of the roads (which were in awful shape from the morning rain) on the pass.

don't know where you're coming from to ski, but it looks like all of the northern greens should make out pretty good, calliing for snow right through tomorrow, and squalls and snow showers can lead to absurd snow totals, especially once the temps really drop tonight

I've found Jay to be pretty honest with their reporting.Have seen many times they reported windblown icy surfaces. You don't see that on many ski area reports. The website does show a couple photos of the snow falling today.

I will be glad to be proved wrong, but my guess is that if they updated the site 4 times by 11:30 and haven't changed it since (I just checked) there probably hasn't been much (any) accumulation since. Forecast is for more tonight and tomorrow though!

Enjoy it. First time in about 5 years I wil miss opening day, has potential to be a good one. As it looks, may not even be getting my pass picture taken until Xmas. Plan on spending 10 days on the hill then. After that I will be back up almost every weekend.

C'mon VTpowder, what crack are you smoking? It is all hype, Jay isn't going to get any more tonight or tomorrow.

After discussing regional differences with our POS supplier in Waitsfield (his dissing J and, me calling Waitsfield "down south") I told a coworker, this cat on the forums at AZ, riverc.., will be hikin' J tomorrow....sounds like you're trying to discourage company...

From Jays Web Site:

(10:45am) Still snowing hard. At least 2" at the base and we're waiting for on update for what's at the top. Forecasts are calling for 2-4" throughout the day today and 1-3" tonight but at this rate we could/should see more. And that's on top of the 4-6" we got yesterday.

I'll take this hype any day

Can't believe the 5:25pm report says they are only opening the Jet. The rain before the snow must have hit them hard because this past Monday they could have easily opened Haynes too after a few passes of the groomer. Derrick should have more than enough to open naturally. Gotta wonder what the wind is doing to all the snow now that it switched from heavy wet stuff to light and fluffy with the temp drop? Definitely bringing my AT's tomorrow because Jet just isn't going to do it for more than a few runs.

They didn't get a changeover at all actually. at the lot 5 inches. at the bottom of the real skiable vert 12 inches. Deepest drifts we found were pole deep. (40+) Dense, powerful snow. Go for the steeps tomorrow, expect wind packed drifts up high. Best run was of off the Jet, skiers right/center. Then home to stowe and at the hill by 3:15 for a Chin Clip. 10-20+ inches with high winds up high. Lots of snow moving and some trails like upper perry merril scoured down to rock and ice. Best run of the day due to the fact that we mached the climb, mached the descent, and know ever blade of grass on that trail. rippin' good time today. Skiing untill my legs fall off this w/e.
Tomorrow will be the best opening day in the 8 years I've been here. I'll be skinning with a 5 pack at 6 from midway to beat the lifts, then off to less travled areas for the rest of the day. Patrol is gonna have their hands full. B careful, the rocks are still in play.
