@ Rob A, 44 and Westway are the same thing, it is just referred to on a few signs, and by many people as 44 because it was the 44th trail.

Well Rob A, I have to say I agree with you about Belleayre, Dot Nebel is a great carver. As for the long season I was there a few times in April and I couldn't believe they were blowing snow. Those are just some of the reasons I consider Belleayre my home mountain even if I have to drive and hour and 45 minutes.

Great conditions, great terrain, short lines, and great prices ($15 fridays rock), what more could you ask for? It's about a 2 hr ride for me, but well worth it. I've also already got 2 free tickets for next yr from their online "find the beast" contest from last season. So I plan to get up there probably 5-6 times next season, maybe more.

MC may be my home Mountain...

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling good about the changes at the home hill. To me it's important to have a mountain in the under 1 hour drive range for night skiing and also taking advantage of the local dumps during the storm when you don't want to (or can't) drive too far. I'm very lucky to have Sundown 25 minutes away. It's small, but they do a lot with the limited terrain they have.

Mountain Creek may be Rob A's home mountain but there are 4 (3 if Hidden Valley doesn't re-open) other options for night skiing and local dumps within 45 minutes of his area of New Jersey, they are just all smaller than MC. Hidden Valley being the next largest with a 620' drop. Mt. Peter and Tuxedo Ridge both have a 400' drop, and Campgaw with a 270' of vertical. I'll ski Campgaw during a snowstorm because it's only a 10 minute drive and when the snow is coming down heavy skiing anywhere is fun.

Thing is all those resorts just don't offer what MC does (or has should I say). I got my MC season pass last yr for $169 and skied there 20 times (about $800 worth of lift tickets). This season will be an interesting one, I'm just pissed at MC right now, not sure what I'm gonna do.

Exactly, getting the pass for 169 is what makes MC so great. When I used to race it was even a little cheaper, I believe. You really can't beat that price.

Goodbye GG

I think the idea is good but they picked the worst part of the mountain. South and Bear is where most of the skiers go at mountain creek and the snowboarders usually swarm North.

Exactly! They're trashing the only good part of MC remaining. Vernon Peak bites anyway, so I wouldn't care much if they gave that over to terrain. It's solid ice by 11am, so what would be the loss? Plus the area we're "getting back" is a tiny fraction of what's being lost. *aaarrrrgggghhhh!*

Oh well, I guess Belleayre will be getting my cash this year. Just have to get used to more driving.

Note to MC: I *am* a snowboarder & even I think this sucks.

I agree with you for the most part, and hate this situation and losng South/Bear. But as much as I love the cruisers on South and quick runs on Bear, the better skiing is on the Vernon and Granite side. There is nothing on the South side that even compares to Zero G, Eagle Hunt/Lower Eagle, Devil's Bit, and of course Pipeline. The real reason I'm pissed right now is having to deal with all the other fiascos of the Vernon side like the lift, parking, lodge, etc. But the terrain, when it is finally open, is better than that of South. But now the first few hrs of my day will not be spent at south it seems, and early season is gonna suck ass. South and Bear are great for early season while I wait for MC to get off their lazy asses and get the above mentioned trails going. With South and Bear gone, I'll be forced on crappy trails like Horizon and others at Vernon and Granite. Hopefully South is still skiable, as I would like to really not change things and continue to park and spend my first few hrs there, and my early season. But it looks like it just won't be that way.
