"You're dreaming I'm afraid. The first time the loaf is going to even remotely be able to make snow is Nov 4th,"

snowman,

"Weather.com is still saying there won't even be a skim of ice on a puddle at the Loaf beyond Nov 1, and absolutely no chance of snowmaking. I still say the Loaf will be lucky to have 1 trail off the superquad by Nov 17"

yup, you were right buddy

It's currently 45 degrees at the base of the loaf by the snowmaking dept's own instruments. What in the hell are they doing?!?! Like the ground wasn't already wet enough....

Don't mean to be the pessimist here, but that sure looks like a lot of water coming out of those guns. They've been online for a couple hours now, and I see nothing on the ground or on the trees. The plumes look a lot like water.

They will certainly make some decent snow overnight, but I'd be willing to guess this is a test fire before actually making snow tonight.

probably going to take a while to stick, it was quite warm yesterday, so the ground isnt really frozen, but temps are in the low 20's so they are making snow.

Killington's looks more as a test as well, unless they plan on having people walk from the top to the glades, ha.

Temps are in the 20s? That's funny. NOAA point forecast at 2800' says its 46 and fair. I'm not saying I don't believe you, that just seems to be an awfully large disparity.

If it is in the 20s, then they're making snow. But even the above picture looks like a very large volume of water. Some of it may be crystallizing, but not much yet. I wouldn't expect to see any significant snow accumulation coming from them there guns until later this evening. But it will happen, if the NOAA forecast pans out. There could be some decent snow on the ground by morning. It looks like they also may be able to blow through the day tomorrow until early morning Tuesday.

I know for the NWS the point forecasts only correct for elevation in the forecasts. Regardless of the topo, wherever you click on the map for current observations, the nearest weather station shows up, which are usually in valleys or not at the heights that we're interested in. Also, if you look at the elevation of the station, it says its only 331ft.

Im not too familiar with Sugarloaf, havent been there in years. About how high are those guns at right now?

Although its kind of far from the loaf, the mt. washington auto road temps had freeing at about 2500 ft @ 5pm.

I would suspect he's right, it wouldn't make much sense for them to be turning on multiple guns if it was 45 degrees. Also, since he is AT Sugarloaf right now, he's probably a bit more accurate than whatever the forecast is saying. ;-)

Well assume those guns are 3000ft above the station that was reporting the 46F degrees....so it would be at 3,331ft above sea level. The dewpoint right now is 19F, so you would lift air dry adibatically which is about 5.5F every 1000ft. So at the warmest, it would be about 30F where those guns are...still borderline I guess, but those temps will drop fast....
