"You're dreaming I'm afraid. The first time the loaf is going to even remotely be able to make snow is Nov 4th,"

snowman,

"Weather.com is still saying there won't even be a skim of ice on a puddle at the Loaf beyond Nov 1, and absolutely no chance of snowmaking. I still say the Loaf will be lucky to have 1 trail off the superquad by Nov 17"

yup, you were right buddy

It's currently 45 degrees at the base of the loaf by the snowmaking dept's own instruments. What in the hell are they doing?!?! Like the ground wasn't already wet enough....

Give it up snowman.

Temps are in the 20s? That's funny. NOAA point forecast at 2800' says its 46 and fair. I'm not saying I don't believe you, that just seems to be an awfully large disparity.

I know for the NWS the point forecasts only correct for elevation in the forecasts. Regardless of the topo, wherever you click on the map for current observations, the nearest weather station shows up, which are usually in valleys or not at the heights that we're interested in. Also, if you look at the elevation of the station, it says its only 331ft.

Justin is right. The current conditions are from Waterville, Maine.

where online are you seeing the snowmaking dept's instruments

Ignore him. He's full of crap and couldn't have been more wrong about this...

Right of this second temps are still at 45 at the base, humidity is 40% and the wind is 16 mph. Nice forest fire prevention system.

Well assume those guns are 3000ft above the station that was reporting the 46F degrees....so it would be at 3,331ft above sea level. The dewpoint right now is 19F, so you would lift air dry adibatically which is about 5.5F every 1000ft. So at the warmest, it would be about 30F where those guns are...still borderline I guess, but those temps will drop fast....

They're probably about 1000 to 1500 feet above the weather station which is at about 2000 feet. I don't think you're going to drop 20 degrees, the amount required to BEGIN making snow in 1000 vert feet.

WTF are you even looking at? We were just told first hand from K2Trav, who frickin lives there, that the temp is in the 20s at the base. Hell, it's 41 here in central MA. Get a clue.

BTW, anyone know if Mt. Snow has any plans to start up tonight? I need more confidence for November 12th haha.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Perhaps you should concentrate on sending me a confirmation email for your website that I signed up for over a year ago.

Let me put it this way...I live at a 200ft elevation in the middle of New Jersey, which is about 500 miles south of Sugarloaf, and it's 49F here.

If you look at that cam now, you can see that snow IS accumulating on the trail. K2Trav lives there, he knows what is going on a hell of a lot better than you do, by looking at NOAA temps for 331ft elevation.

I'm looking at the trail. I'm seeing plumes of water in the air. I do think the temp does seems higher than it should be though...I'm thinking maybe someone has a window open or something.....

Down to 38 now, that was fast. Wind has dropped too, down to 6. Humidity is starting to jack though, 54% and climbing.

If you signed up as snowman there, then you must have forgotten you password

Hey Snowman... there comes a point when you need to trust the people who are onsite more than a forecast you read online. Hell, the other day, Sugarbush's live temp feed from a weather station said it was 50 at the summit and 50 at the base, but 0 degrees at mid mountain. Was that right? No. These feeds aren't always accurate.

I believe the guy that's there. He's not trying to argue about the science of snowmaking, he's just telling us the temperature. I get this feeling that he probably is capable of reading a thermometer accurately.

He's just trolling now. He has to be. There's no other good explanation for his posts.

I'm thinking someone has the window open. It's usually pretty accurate. No one was complaining when I was reporting that it was lower than they thought it would be the other night, however, no one would have been there the other night to open the window.
