Very nice! Good to see they're attempting a top - to - bottom opening this year. Haven't seen that in a few years. The U. Picked Rock / Flying Fox combo to East Basin gets old after about an hour, not to mention the lines and having to download.

Last picture was taken on Lower Picked Rock. It was nice, man made snow with natural snow falling as well!

Link to my blog and video of today's snowmaking:

Right now snow is being made on the Gondola Summit, Exodus and Picked Rock top the bottom. The goal is top to bottom skiing for Saturday. Snow is also being made on Grand Junction and Link so we can also open the East Basin Double. The whales on the upper mountain are significantly deeper than what you see John's pictures. It also snowed at the mountain much of the day which added to the wintery scene. I know one of Loon's marketing cheerleaders dawned her boots and skis for a photo op today. She made a couple turns. It should be up on www.loonmtn.com sometime soon.

I posted in another thread that my son, dog and I hiked up the mtn to the gondola summit on Sunday - everything was laid out ready to go. there was alot of water running across the slopes but what impressed me was the lack of ledge and rock on the trails - don't need a lot of snow to open the trails we hiked up.

Anyone know how Loon is shaping up for the weekend?

Their webcams looked FUBAR'd and their snow and trail reports tell nothing. Not sure it's worth driving up there this weekend if they don't give more info. With the low temps they should be able to get a lot ready.

I thought they just started today or yesterday based on the pics.

The pics were from two days ago. They were taken shortly after Lower Picked was lit-up in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday. At the time the upper mountain had been under the guns since late Monday night and already looked worth a run to me.

Today I took another trip to the summit and everything looked good for top to bottom skiing on Saturday.

Sorry about the website. A new site was launched last week and it should continue to get better.

The plan is to run the Gondola and East Basin Double with skiing from the Gondola summit on Exodus, Upper Picked and Lower Picked to the Gondola base and also Grand Junction and Link to East Basin.
