I'm looking for comment from anyone who has been in the VT north woods (NEK, Stowe, Jay, Bush, MRG, etc.) in the past week or thereabouts.

There is one piece of good news from the icing we got two weeks ago. I have noticed first-hand that in Southern VT the snow snakes seem to have been almost entirely tamed by the icing event.

I know the north didn't see nearly as much ice as the south. What's the advice on snow snakes in the north? One report from SkiVTL indicates a snake accosted someone last week at Bolton which resulted in injury. I haven't been up there since December. Just wondering. Doesn't change any plans, but may change how I plan to ski.

Thanks.

You still need to be careful... The snowpack isn't deep enough to be able to go full throtle... Lots of deadfalls still present and hidden under the fresh snow... Still have to ski with care.

I've done the woods at SB...in fact, we covered a lot of terrain on Saturday. The conditions are almost there, but there is some down trees and debris from icing and yes there are still snowsnakes here and there to be aware of.

The woods at Stowe on Saturday were good wherever I ducked in. It's definitely getting there, although, like everyone else mentioned, it's not quite there yet and theres a few snakes and fallen trees still out there to grab ya. Nothing to really be concerned about though.

On map and well traveled areas are good to go. Less well traveled stuff is still caution advised but pretty good. I wouldn't be worried over much (i.e. I wouldn't not go into the trees except places that really need a deep base) but I wouldn't go tearing threw the woods at top speed in powder either.
