DOH! "was"....how bad "was" your commute? Too bad the "edit" function won't let you edit your title.

It took me almost 5 hrs to drive home today! I was lucky it onl tok that long!!! I opted off Rt 148 south of the Mass Pike and took back roads since the traffic was parked.

It took me 2 hrs to go from downtown Natick to the Mass Pike!

I was an hour for what is normally a 20 minute drive. i would have made it home in just under an hour, but the lovely words of "Daddy I need to go potty right now!" forced a little detour ;)

Headed up to have a weekend of r&r in NH, not skiing, family time, they aren't skiers, besides can't deal w/ Gunstock. Left Yarmouthport, Ma at 2:30, usually takes us around 3 hours to get here, figured 5ish when I left, 8.5 hours later we arrived, almost 7 to get out of MA. New MA state rule, if you abandon your car on the highway, it is taken over by eminent domain, what morons people are. I could not believe it, if I saw someone leave their car on the highway, they would get a face of slush. Another thought, if you drive an 05 or earlier BMW w/out all wheel drive, stay home or at work. People started leaving work at noon-time, how was it so bad all evening. From Braintree to Somerville took about 3 hours, I can usually do it in 1/2 hour. It was my mistake for driving today, but I never thought it ould be as bad.

Is it always that bad during a snowstorm in Boston? It took me 40 minutes to drive to Blue mountain in freezing rain and sleet instead of 30 minutes..most people stayed off the road..My work is 1.5 miles away with no traffic lights through neighborhood streets. I purposely rented my apartment near my work..

Actually, the main problem is, highway drivers. For some reason, coming to a complete stop seems to be the general consensus on the safest way to drive in snow. I mean after all, the interstates REALLY just one huge Walmart parking lot, right?

The problem was people w/ car issues and just leaving them sitting there, also the large number of idiots. When the traffic first startd, the beeatch in front of me stopped traffic, got out w/ he scraper to clean her window. That was on 93 south of the city.

From what I saw on NECN, everyone (except AZers of course) freaked when the first flakes started fall and everyone took off from work early, at the same time. With all those cars on the road, it makes it slow going. The heat from the cars melts the snow which then immediately froze onto the road making it an ice sheet.
In all fairness, even the 2-3 inches we got here made the roads a little dicey. Took me about an hour for what would normally be a 25 minutes drive.

4.45 hours from charlestown ma to Nashua Nh. I will get from bost to Sunday River and be dringking a beer in less time today.
Enjoy...

What time did you leave? I left Woburn at the peak (yep, real good move:dunce:), tried some backroads in Burlington (another :dunce: move) and it took me 4.5 hours to get home.

What was outrageous was that my wife left work in Bedford 3 hours later and, since she could take back roads through Carlisle and Westford, she made it home in 1 hours 15 minutes.

I left about 2.30. Problem was the big trucks sideways at the entrance to rt 3 and well the abandoned cars and yes a snowplow on 128 was just left there. I think it would have been better served plowing..

6 Hours for my 18 mile commute on 128. Lots of bad drivers, abandoned cars, trucks that couldn't move. Was on the road from 2 PM to 8 PM.

Only good news was a chance to listen to the entire 4/2/1973 Grateful Dead at the Boston Garden show that I had in the car !

A lot of various factors contributed to this huge mess, but the biggest was plain stupidity on the part of a lot of people. Groupthink and herd mentality. If one did not get out before the snow started to fly, all it took was tuning to traffic reports before heading out to realize that it was a total gridlock just about everywhere.

I'm sure that a good portion of the people that decided to hit the road really had to get home (kids, and other obligations), but a lot probably did not. Faced with the sitution of being stuck best choice is to stay put.

My drive from Sugarloaf to Worcester today was quicker than my commute from Milford to Worcester Thursday. Normally a half hour drive took me 5 hours and then when I got home there were abandoned cars in front of my driveway so I couldn't get in.

That was my problem Thursday. I was suppose to work till ten pm but my coworkers decided to bail and we need at least two people at work or we have to shut down. I would have rather worked till ten and the roads would've been clear by then. I just hope their commute was as miserable as mine so I can give them crap Monday.

WOW, and I thought I had it bad..... I commute from Barrington, NH to Concord, NH everyday and a good day takes 50 mins. It took me 2 hours to get home. Well I did make a stop for gas and potty stop, figured if I was going to get stuck in traffic, I'd better take advantage of the stop. All the way from work from Concord to the Epsom Traffic Circle was just one big line of cars. There was one point on the short distance I have to drive on 393, that normally takes maybe 5 mins, took about a half an hour.

Wow WWF-VT I thought I had it bad going from Hingham to Colchester CT left at 1:40 & got home at 8:30.

Mass sections were brutal. I took 95 & 295 to 6 . The first hill on SIx & one on 295 had several cars stuck in their lane of travel unable to move.

I waited it out. Got a lot of work in, called the relatives, ate popcorn. Left the office at 9pm. took 40 minutes instead of 25. The only stress was watching them plow in my car in the office parking lot.
