So, is there a way to block 'smart advertising' on your computer?

That evilness is going to get me into trouble someday.

Recently I've been checking out several different types of skis that I'm interested in purchasing at some point.

Wouldn't you know it that advertisements with those exact skis shows up occasionally in this forum when I'm not logged in, on the sidebar of my hotmail account and on other webpages. Nextag is the primary evil doer, but a few other sites I've looked at have managed to hop into my computer as well.

Now, I've managed to utilize self restraint, though last night I did load the shopping cart before stepping away from the computer.

My bigger concern is my wife experiencing the same thing on her laptop with various shoes and clothing advertisements. There is no 'want' in the woman, always 'needs' :smash:

that does seem to do the trick, but I'd rather just block that crap on her cpu before it's too late

You can purchase a cookie/spyware blocker - or maybe set your security settings in your browser.. Or maybe purchase stuff in an incognito window of the browser..

Good thing you were only shopping for skis and not something innapropriate lol.

Clean the cookies as DMC said and you may also want to run some anti-spyware if you aren't already.

I actually don't mind target marketing. If I'm gonna have to see that ad space anyways, I'd rather have it from products that interest me. I draw the line at personally identifiable info.

i feel this way too except it annoys me that they are advertising for things i've already purchased.
