1/2 of it is lame but the middle buttress area and the ridge all the way skiers left is great. Probably better since the lift adds and upgrades.Pow mow is lame. Let them have it

The road to PowMow is a bitch. But that seems weird to close completely.In line for the 1st chair at Snowbasin the guy next to me told me that Powder mountain had shut down for the day for windhold and avy work on the road. There was not much wind at Snowbasin so we thought it pretty lame that Powder would close the day after getting over a foot of snow on the 1st Sunday of pass holder only weekends in February. He called him Greid HoffmanHis thinking was they can't sell $211 day tickets so why open for just the passholders?

That line made me laugh.Quoting from the article:
In that zone, development is basically limited to seasonal cabins ... because most of the homes are expected to be second homes, they would qualify as “seasonal cabins.”

				The part of that area that is private is Yellowstone. Big sky its self is still huge.A lot of the coldest and/or most reliable conditions ski areas are slowly becoming privatized. I was working up at big Sky this past summer and you can see how it’s moving closer and closer to a full on private model. Even if it’s not completely private the public part of the ski area has become so expensive that most regular working class people have been priced out of skiing there.
This is unfortunately the future of the ski business industry if the climate science is correct. If quality product becomes scarce the demand and value increases leaving only enough for the minority that can afford it.

I got a job offer in Bozeman earlier this year paying $230k for a corporate finance role. Though that won't buy you a mansion in Bozeman, you can find something OK if you look around (especially with a spouse also bringing income to the table).
The median household income in Bozeman is around 85k for a more realistic data point. If you’re trying to raise a family there on that or even twice as much then spending time skiing at big sky probably isn’t going to be on top of your priority list.I got a job offer in Bozeman earlier this year paying $230k for a corporate finance role. The industries that pay well anywhere know that they can't lowball candidates in these resort markets anymore due to housing prices. There's not a huge "lifestyle discount" anymore - that job may have paid $250-270k in NY. Didn't end up accepting it, but just a data point.
