Resort or Ski Area: Sunapee

Conditions: VC/SC

Trip Report: The weather looked great. We were both stuck with lots of work, but it was too nice. Looking at the weather last night, I convinced Ms. Trailboss to get in a nice morning at Sunapee. Our original game plan was to "front load" this weekend--work and then play, but the weather was not going to work out  Surprise, surprise. So we went for today.

Got there about 8:45 and parked in the middle lot. Mountain looked great. The beach was full.

First run was on the HSQ and hit Bonanza. It was a sheet of ice and the wind was at least 40 mph :x Though it was mild, things were "flash frozen" on the front side. (Dear Weather God: as frustrated as we are, really, the lack of snow and more rain is enough. The high speed winds the last three weekends have just added insult to injury. Please be nice). A run down Lynx off of the triple, in a futile attempt to find softer snow, was deadly. Lower 1/3 of the front runs were skiable...everything else on front was solid.

So we hightailed it to the back and found great soft spring snow in the Sunbowl. Hit all the regular runs. Bumps were forming on Wingdings before lunch. It was nice. :D Skyway Ledges were brutal...icy as well. The Sunbowl was the place to be.

At lunch we could get a table  Met some nice folks who had just had a great day at Burke...

After lunch, we hit Bonanza and Chase. Much softer and friendlier. Blast Off was good as well. Did another run down Skyway which had softened. Ridge was not as bumpy.

Ms. Trailboss called it at 1:15 or so and I took two STELLAR runs down a soft, fun Goosebumps  Run of the day! It had the right combo of soft, corn snow, lack of people, pitch, and no wind. AWESOME! I turned down Flying Goose for two mint runs on Goosebumps before pulling the plug. The snow was good once it softened...I'm real tired though and Ms. TB even more so.

If there was some more pitch, the snow would be great. A great day though.

Glad to hear you made the best of today.....we opted out for today. :( OH, well, just as well, we got something done today, that worked out very well. We were gonna to Killington today, but decided conditions probably wasn't going to be very good. So we put in our new dock, or should I say, rather that we built our new dock. It was a good day to do it. I think we'll be very happy about it. :)

Great report TB! We really need a couple freeze thaw cycles to get some classic corn. I'm still optomistic the mountains can get a few more feet before we start writing Ullr some hate mail. Mount Washington is still getting snow! I dont think it even hit 20 up there today!
I was trying to convince my son to just do a hike into Tucks today but he wasnt hip :( so we just kinda fartted around today. I did buy him a new Giro helmet this afternoon and he's pissed cuz I wont let him ride his bike with it.
Did Flying Goose have a seeded bump run? I always thouught it interesting that Goose Bumps is groomed flat and Flying Goose get a set bump course :-? .

Yep, Flying Goose has seeded bumps on it while Goosebumps was mowed last night. It is ironic! I thought that it was called Goosebumps because looking at it would give a high-intermediate "goosebumps."

Lakes are barely frozen.

Snowcover: about 6 inches in the woods in the Sunbowl. None on the frontside. None at the bast.
