Stenger told us that "over 300,000" visitors used the water park last year. In their latest issue, he told Ski Magazine that there are 400,000 visitors each year.

Somehow I don't think he meant 100,000 people in the "over" part.

Not political, but it's all the fault of libtard socialist policy. If we had a strong republican leader like Palin or Phil from Duck Dynasty, the economy would be booming.

The single payer healthcare thing is crazy. Isnt it forecasted to basically be 60% of the state budget, almost all of which is unfunded?

Heard rumors of 10% top line taxes on small business to fund. I can think of few businesses that can afford that.

That sounds about right. Because of politics, Shumlin has refused to discuss (1) the "real" cost, and (2) how they will pay for it. Instead, they have gotten everyone excited about the idea of it and they want to implement it with no discussion as to (1) or (2) until later.

I think we all get it. They know it is way to expensive, they have no way to pay for it, and they aren't saying that. Instead they are dragging it out.

It scares folks. They are saying a payroll tax as one source. They are also not sure what to do with bigger companies who do their own insurance.

This, and the fact that they are all but admitting that they will pay for it by paying doctors less, scared my wife and her med school colleagues. Doctors are leaving or retiring from Vermont. New Docs who have student debt are leaving to practice elsewhere because of this threat.

I read about that pay structure for doctors, and couldnt help but think, did they actually talk to any doctors? The numbers they throw around seemed to me at least like they think its just some guy with knowledge, like a tax accountant, and not a capital intensive industry where medical equipment costs millions.

Mark my words! They will let this healthcare program get well underway then the reality will be that there is not enough funding. The great minds who thought of it will then resort to creative taxes on the wealthy and subsequently on all us poor smucks! Add to that the attempts to double the minimum wage like Seattle just did and we will be in for fun times! Thank God for winter and skiing!

Bingo. Or they think that becoming a doctor is cheap.

Some wanted an immediate hike in the minimum wage in VT.

And NH looks better and better.

Well if they did double minimum wage what would that do to the cost of skiing?

The demand was to increase the minimum wage to like $12 or more for Vermont.

As to skiing it would increase the price significantly...say 30% as a guess?

Imagine the impact to places like Magic, Bolton Valley or Burke for that matter. Any ski area with relatively low numbers would be screwed.

Keep in mind that a governmental mandated increase in wages also results in an increase in payroll taxes for the employer. Since Vermont may very likely hit employers up with a substantial payroll tax to fund healthcare (on top of existing payroll taxes), you can see why business owners are very nervous.

Exactly. The result of this and other regulatory pushes in Vermont is that the bigger companies get stronger while the little operations get pushed out of business. So there is less competition. Seems to be the complete opposite of what folks want.
