So after a nice, warm spring day on Tuesday, we have been thrown back into the middle of winter. 9" of new snow at the stake today is not too shabby and the depth is steadily rising. As long as we keep getting these snow showers and squalls to pop over Mansfield, the morning will be pretty sweet. Looks like a northern Greens special.

I measured 3-4" of very dense snow at the base and 6-7" of lighter, wind blown powder in the upper Goat Dive area around 3:30 when we left. Snow was more like snow pellets but appeared to be getting the job done. Hopefully we get some better snow growth as colder air moves in but so far the snow accums are elevation dependent due to marginal low level temperatures.

The winds are a whole other story. It was howling up there by this afternoon and they got another mini-ice storm last night. Lots of debris was falling from the trees and Dave even had an old widow maker fall next to him.

New ice accumulation from last night.

Due to the ice, all high speed lifts were down as mountain ops cleared the cables. By the time the ice was knocked off, the winds had picked up enough so that the lifts just went from ice hold to wind hold. So we were left with the chair reserved for cold, stormy days. The painfully slow Lookout Double.

The freezing rain last night made the surface conditions interesting to say the least. Be prepared for variable under powder. Luckily by the end of the day enough snow had fallen to hide most of the crust. As the wind picked up, it too started freshing up all the surfaces in a denser wind-buff type powder.

Favorite wind-hold run is in Tres Amigos and Major Jones area...plenty of fresh turns to be had and the terrain is fun. There's a good deal of snow in the vicinity of the Mountain Triple...even lower elevations are loaded nicely.

The end of the day turns over in Goatdive were quite sweet. It should be real nice with another half a foot or so.

See you out there tomorrow.

Looks great. Another top notch trip report from powderfreak. I'll be at Stowe this Saturday so it looks like I'm in for some great conditions. Thanks for the update.

This last base consilodation has really turned the landscape into a very skier friendly enviroment. Everything is rounded off, filled in and SUPER consistant. And the firm base is very edgeable. if we get hit this week it will make for some epic (not that we haven't had our moments allready) ski days with OVER 100" at the stake. WHOOT!
