STOWE, Vermont -- Preventing hunger in Vermont was as easy and enjoyable as experiencing a phenomenal day of spring skiing and riding on Vermont's highest peak. That was the outcome on April 19, when Stowe Mountain Resort hosted the Vermont Foodbank during their last day of winter operations for the 2008-2009 Season.

The sun was shining, the snowpack was deep and 1,374 pounds of food was gathered from the crowd resulting in over 1,000 meals for Vermonters in need.

This winter boasted above average snowfall on the mountains of Stowe, with 352" inches falling between mid-November and early-April. This past winter was also a landmark season for Stowe Mountain Resort, featuring debuts of the luxurious Stowe Mountain Lodge & Spa and the new Spruce Camp base lodge.

Activity resumes for summer in Stowe when both golf courses open in May along with the famous Toll Road climbing Mount Mansfield. Stowe Mountain Resort's full compliment of summer attractions follow with openings June.

The Vermont Foodbank serves nearly 270 not-for-profit organizations with meal programs: community kitchens; shelters for the homeless; domestic abuse programs; food shelf programs; rehabilitative centers; and services for the elderly and children. The Vermont Foodbank receives financial and product support from organizations, corporations, foundations and individuals. For more information, visit www.vtfoodbank.org
