Yet another which ski area to go to thread!

Anyways, I'm taking a day trip away from the home hill (Bush) on Tuesday. I'm considering Stowe and Smuggs. I'm looking for steeps and bumps and the likes, and slow lifts don't bother me when awesome terrain is accessible from them. So, for those of you who have skied at either place (or just know what you're talking about), what's my best bet for Tuesday?

You really can't go wrong with either..I would prefer Stowe if I had one day but if I had two days..I would ski both. Like Pepsi and Coke it is all really the same at that point

i'm a fan of Smuggs....so much great steep runs and trees....low key and not crowded...think its cheaper too...great on mtn food as well..and the Prohabition Ale at the end of the day never hurt either!!

Trees are played. Smuggs trails are way more interesting IMO. Be careful on that side of the notch if you go to the B days. I wouldn't ski there right now on anything steep.

My

2 cents. I would hit Smuggs for sure!!! Between M1 liftline, Sally's Alley, Freefall, Blackhole, Robin's Run and Doc's you'll have wobbly legs fer sure. Oh sure, it's not the "front 4", but you'll have less skier traffic to deal with. Maybe JD can confirn this, but I do know (few yrs ago) your ticket is good at either mtn. You might be limited to number of rides or something like that, but that's always an option too. Would tell you though that the "to and fro" is VERY flat, so with all that snow it could be a bigger chore than what it would be worth. (the 2 joints are connected via sterling/spruce) As for the B days---stay out unless your lucky enough to hook up with a local to take you in there. Could get stuck with the lions, tigers and bears never to come out until May. Anyway, your in a good spot because you can't make a bad decision.

Lions and tigers and bears... OH MY!!!

Anyways... I think I'll head for Smuggs tomorrow. Sounds like I really can't go wrong there. I'll be staying on-piste tomorrow, so shouldn't have much to worry about. May be I'll hit Stowe later in March.

Thanks for all the help, everyone. TR to follow, hopefully with pics.

The spruce side of the notch is pretty unstable. Last Wednesday while with a group of 4 we touched off 2 slabs. Biggest I've ever seen. Big enough to bury and severly injure a skier. In both cases, more serious circumstances were narrowly avoided. In the skiied out lines you are prolly safe, but be careful exploring in there.

Thanks. Like I said, though, I think I'll just stay on-piste tomorrow. Especially since the snow is getting pretty thawed on these warm days, and then freezing up a little over night.
