I'll get the bad out of the way. Yeah, they totally overgroomed certain parts of the hill. Ecch. Grizzly Bear was a mistake, groomed and superflat icy. Upper Liftline was totally stoopid --- Great for the "Straight and skid" kind of boarders, but anyone trying to get carve on or play around a bit would be disapointed. I heard the lower downeaster was groomed terribly. Guess they closed it and started blowing snow.

Trails of the day:

Beardown --- top right side had untracked powder. Then became tracked but was nice and fluffy. Poached the side and it was insanely good. The bumps did get rough a bit. Really needed your A-game. Had to slip slide down in sections, and got caught on that "awkward unable to turn moment" a few times.

Upper Middlebrook. No real bumps formed, the right side was real nice and turnable.

Kidderbrook --- ungroomed and little traffic made this superb. Too bad about the P.I.A. traverse at the bottom. Well, I guess it wasn't too bad, I did it like 6 times. People were going into the new glades and I didn't see anything roped off.

Upper Spruce didn't have much love, it was all ice trough and ice bump. Couldn't grab any powder anywhere to slow down.(Shredwood forest was "officially" closed, I checked) Lower spruce was much better though and the bottom left was great.

Upper switchback --- no real bumps, but very nice, the left side, like lower spruce was incredible.

World Cup --- not bad. And they opened the (slow) sunbowl quad so you didn't have to traverse over down through the bowl if you didn't want to.

Lower Slalom glade --- good stuff there.(getting there via Drifter was kind of lame though)

Free fall was pretty nice. Some bumps, but actually some loose powder on the right by the Vertigo glades. And the far left was great. And parts of the middle. I was making some hop turns even though they were completely unecessary.

Didn't do too much woods. Emerald Forest (the glades I learned on) were open, so I tried it a few times. Also did Cabin Fever which was fun. Nice au natural log rail in there. No damage to P-tex done, but the potential was certainly there. I didn't go into any other glades (I think many were officially closed) as I was solo and didn't feel like getting injured by myself on a closed trail. Not a good idea. Oh, Dancing Bear was open, I was tempted, but...it was late and the legs were tired.

East Meadow was in great shape. I guess they groomed it, but it held together very well.

The peak was socked in by clouds, and the groomed stuff it was really hard to get a read on what conditions were below you. Temps were comfortable, a little bit of wind in the afternoon.

They opened the Shooting Star lift (which I guess they do on Fridays) which helped to make Upper Middlebrook and Bear Down my two picks of the day.

Just got home from there myself. Guess it was busier than usual for a Friday since it was part of "employee appreciation week" which entitled the workers to five passes each day of the week to hand out (or something like that). Still were little or no lines at any lift. Amazing how many flying couches they have there (6 man chairs).

Unbelievable how badly the top of the mountain was clouded in. You're absolutely right on how hard it was to read the snow in front of you. Actually felt unbalanced with the weird fall line and lack of visibilty on part of Janeways JCT.

Snow was pretty decent across the whole mountain. Your trail condition descriptions were right on the money, good report...
