Conditions - firm base with accumulating snow throughout the afternoon
My son was psyched the mountain was 100% open so he wanted to hit some trails that haven't been open all year.
Didnt bust our ass trying to get there early since I figured we would be hitting last chair due to the snow in the afternoon and rolled into the lot at 9:45. They were still parking in the garage which is unheard of on a weekend after 8am. My guess was everyone was heading home early due to the storm. Meh..their loss.
After a run down upper wanderer (since it hasn't been open all year) we lapped the snow bowl to west pilot glades which were scratchy up top but were powdery the further you went. We took the extended version down to lower wanderer.
Amex to ursa and then to sunbowl area. I really like this area when it's 100% open. We did a couple of runs, hit lunch, then lapped ricks catch 22, sunbeam and rising star. All good with a lot of accumulated powder and natural snow. Probably got 10 runs in an hour and 1/2.
To the the top then kidder brook to free fall which was powdery goodness at 3pm. Then back to gondola via north American woods, with 2 walk on laps at gondola.
Caught our last gondola at 3:55 and just cruised upper-lowrr slalom glade. Good accumulating powder
The boy is toast and we are heading to sleep early for magic tommorow.
All in all, probably one of my top 10 days at stratton.
