Area skied: Stratton Mountain, Vermont
Date skied: November 29th, 2008 from 9:15am - 1:30pm
Surface conditions: packed powder, hardpacked.
Weather: sun and clouds, flurries. Temperature 32F at the base at 9:00am
Warren and I made the trip up to Stratton today to use some of our free lift tickets and we had a good day overall on the mountain, with the chance to introduce my son to Stratton for the first time and my first visit since March of 2001.
We started our skiing off of the Starship Gondola on Upper and Lower West Meadow from top to bottom and this was my first ski day of the year with legitimate packed powder underfoot from the top of the run all the way to the base.
Next up was Chute/Black Bear which was decent, but had some scraped off patches of ice here and there. North American was even more hardpacked and skied off, probably due to such high lift capacity off the Ursa Express and the rain of this week.
We skied Upper and Lower East Meadow which had just opened today and it was awful with a mix of golf ball sized ice cookies and some packed powder. I think I loosened a tooth in my mouth on that run.
Polar Bear and Grizzly Bear where decent with hardpacked snow down the middle of each run and some larger areas of loose powder and some mini moguls in spots.
The best runs for consistent packed powder where Yodeler, Suntanner and Lower Standard.
