Stripped Screws

Anyone have any luck fixing binding screws that have stripped out of the ski and will not tighten anymore? I added lifter plates to a pair of skis last night and one of the new screws in the toe piece (Sollie 997) stripped. I don't want to re-drill all the holes to move the bindings, so has anyone tried to repair this? Gorilla glue? JB weld? Epoxy? These are a few year old Head Cyber Cross Ti that I was planning on keeping as my second pair. I believe the screws go into a plate of titanium. Thanks!

If it goes into a piece of metal, your best bet would be to re-tap the threads, and use a bigger screw. JB Weld would probably hold, too, but I don't know that you want to risk that. Pre-release is one thing- ripping the binding off is another...

Edit: After reading skidbump's link- helicoil's the word I was looking for, in place of tapping and using a bigger screw. About as secure as you're going to get. Though, the epoxy and steel wool option's interesting.

You can use a solid threaded insert for easy repair. First you would drill a slightly larger hole and tap , then the metal insert would screw in and lock. The insert already would have the needed screw size threaded.Very simple process , though not sure what size your stripped screw is, otherwise I would provide you with a part number and phone number where you can order.
I would not use glue / epoxy first because it would not hold the screws with all the stress on them and second the glue may not fully bond to the ski. :idea:

All better advice then what I'm going to suggest....but in the backcountry when the binding screw is loose I shove a piece of steel wool in the hole, reinsert the screw and tighten. Not ideal, but it usually gets me back home again.

If those skis are your rock skis and you can't get the correct size helicoil insert for $5, I would use a good quality epoxy and steel wool. This repair isn't as good as a helicoil, but will be 'good enough' for rock skis.
