I am one of those annoying people that talk about winter during the summer. I also express my love for winter to everyone.

Hahaha! Me too!


It kills me when someone who claims to be a skier or snowboarder says they can't wait till summer. I silently remove them from the cool list and put them on to the poser list in my mind. I really can't stand all the people who complain about the winters, yet refuse to try anything that might make it fun. If you hide inside and do nothing but watch TV, of course you're going to get depressed and hate winter. My ex-wife used to do that. Then I got her into snowboarding. Now she considers the beach vacations she used to love so much pretty boring compared to a week on the mountain.

When I see it snowing, I get just as excited now as when I was a little kid hoping for a day off from school. I love how whenever a storm is in the forecast I can walk into my boss' office and he'll be looking at maps of the storm track, trying to figure out where the best skiing will be. And even the non-skiers in our group will tell people to watch their tongues if come into our area and start dissing the snowy weather.

He's an awesome boss. We do a few trips together every year. He can hold his own on skis too. It's going to suck when he retires in a year or two.

We design aircraft electronics. The mechanical parts.

I'm going to echo the sentiments of many other members. I hear this kind of shit all the time. People saying they hate snow and rather have rain. Rain? Really? Regardless, these people have the freedom to MOVE. You don't like snow, we get it, move elsewhere or shut up. Some others might agree, but most of the people I know who do this are the same people who complain about the heat and humidity during the summers. I honestly think some of these people just love to complain. If you live in the Northeast you should be used to the weather. We're lucky we live in a place where we can enjoy and experience all the seasons, especially winter and the joy it brings to winter sports lovers. Don't take it for granted. We don't know if winter will be the same in 50-75 years. Enjoy it. If you don't like it, Florida is waiting for you.

This reminds me of a conversation I overheard getting off the summit lift at Wachusett last week. These two high school kids were snowboarding, one of them seemingly a beginner. The more experienced boarder asks "So what do you like better, this or the beach?"

His friend responds "THIS. ALL DAY."

Most people I have met that live in the mountains enjoy it and look forward to all four seasons. If you're gonna live on this fine planet, embrace your world and get out there. The only time I'm not outside is during black fly season!

I get the family thing, my plan long term is Utah but my sister is close to me and mentally severely retarded so she doesn't like not seeing me for long time and it hard for me not to see her to but I can't talk to her. She knows who I am and I love her a lot but I would see once a year if I move out West, that is tough.

Hope things change soon……I can't take not having my OUT…..I promise once things recover Im skiing my ass off as much as humanly possible….like there's no tomorrow !

I also have a frind on Facebook she used to ski, any time now I say something about snow and she always said bring on sun and warm temperatures and I always like that happens in summer don't you miss winter fun I don't get it. Facebook weather status is annoying but I sure I annoy people with weather for snow and for MJ lol to.

My boss at work has what he refers to as "The Streak". I guess he has played at least 9 rounds of every month for 38 in a row. It's kind of our running joke with us. This AM he stopped into my office to let me know he played 9 yesterday. It's just an annoying reminder that this weather sucks.

I love being outside in all seasons, be it kayaking, hiking, camping, skiing. Unfortunately where I live everywhere is crowded with people and most of the state I live in isn't very scenic. Acres of McMansions and strip malls aren't my thing. The parks and campgrounds are always crowded, especially one weekends. It's expensive and congested and ugly.

To get to where I want to be to do what I want to do, I have to drive a minimum of an hour, usually more. While my children were growing up I did what I could do to adapt but now I'm single and my kids will soon be on their own. I have no other immediate family, no really close friends. I don't own a house. There's nothing keeping me in a place I've been wanting to leave for 20 years. I don't even like my job much. So it's time to leave and where I want to be is in the mountains, enjoying 4 distinct and different seasons and enjoying the great outdoors and pursuing a different lifestyle.

When I'm outside enjoying the elements I'm never happier. I feel connected to not only nature, but to my inner self. It's nothing short of awesome.

I agree, life is short. With the time left to me I want to finally realize my dream and go to where I'm happiest. So sad to live day to day in a place and never be happy, never be content and always want to be somewhere else. It's a living hell.

Not a big shore person (benny?). Know many people who live down there but its not for me. You would be better off up here at the lake (still a little country N&W of I-80/I-287). Unfortunately for you most of the people who live around here are big shore people. Summer has to be a PITA down there.

I too am looking to head out of NJ in the future and will most likely end up in the inter-mountain west. Know Colorado, Utah and Arizona pretty well and am looking to check out Idaho, Mont and a few others before making any decision. NJ has definitely gone through a lot of changes over my lifetime (not all of them good). Living in the NY metro area has its advantages and we may try to keep a toehold in the area in some form.

I am coming to the realization that Darwinism is a fraud. There were actually two origins of the species. The first were organisms that crawled from the oceans to the shores and evolved. The second were organisms which originated in the glaciers, evolving to be trolls, gnomes, skiers and later boarders in mountainous terrain. This goes a long way towards explaining the inbred attraction to either the mountains or the ocean. Then again, I have no explanation for those who chose to live in the city, go to museums and other cities on vacation, bike on bike paths, jog down sidewalks and pavement and take their exercise in the form of sterile health centers, perhaps touching the earth when they sit down on a manmade bench in the park.
