Conditions: Spring conditions
Weather: Foggy up top in the morning, sun broke through at various times, partly cloudy other times, warm. Forecast was rain, so we really lucked out.
Favorite runs of the day were Mall, Spillsville, and Paradise. All had nice spring bumps. Steins was also fun, but the bumps were more widely spaced and probably larger than I like them. Also skied Upper Castlerock Run, Cotillion, Organgrinder, and Ripcord.
As for the woods, I only took one run in there. Headed off Paradise to quickly encounter a downed tree along the long trail. The woods there were full of debris (branches, evergreen leaves). The surface also wasn't as nice as the trails, but the amount of debris was a big surprise. I guess it is left over from the big storm a few weeks back? I hadn't been up there since the first weekend in March.
I was stunned at the cover on The Mall in particular. Paradise and Spillsville also had great coverage. Castlerock Run had some bare spots to avoid -- I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't make it much longer -- but mostly was in very good shape. Snowmaking runs were off course well covered. There is a lot of snow in the Paradise woods -- stuck my pole in up to its handle and don't think I was hitting the bottom -- but, as I said, lots of debris.
Overall though a great spring day on the bumps!
