Date(s) Skied: Sat. 11/17/07 & Sun. 11/18/07

Resort or Ski Area: Sugarloaf/USA

Conditions: Hardpack and man made.

Trip Report: First trip of the season and first trip report ever so feel free to critique. Sorry, no pics. Saturday- In the morning double runner east and spillway west were the only lifts running. Sluice was open off of the spillway. It was hardpack with some pow on top but it was skied off in some spots which made it a little slick. The coverage was great, edge to edge. The conditions on Sluice was consistent Sat and Sun. It was a little more crowded on Sat but not as bad Sun. Lower winters way was also covered edge to edge. A packed base with a few inches of pow on top.

The lift line started getting long for the double runner around 10:30. Shortly after that they announced they were going to open the super quad at 11:00. We skied over to the quad and there was a long line there already and they started about 15-20 mins late. Tote Road was open off of that lift. The top of Tote Road was cookies but it didn't feel that bad. They were making wet snow so as soon as it hit my goggles it froze to the lenses. I saw a lot of people stopping to clear their lens. The good thing about that was it drove away most of the people and there was no lift line on the quad the rest of the day. Lower Tote Road was a little slushy where they were blowing snow.

Sunday we started on the super quad. At the top we saw people going to the left but I think they were just going to Sluice. The top of Tote Road was great. They blew a fresh coat of snow on it over night. Couldn't ask for better man made conditions. The snow guns were still going all day on that trail. Great coverage. Lower Tote Road was better too but the mounds of man made were slushy. Sluice and Lower Winters Way was the same Sunday as Saturday but Sluice didn't have many people on it.

Overall, very good conditions, good crowd, and I had my first couple Bag Burgers and Brown Bag Ales of the season. Fun Weekend.

Glad to see you got out and are using the maine pass. My 1st trip to the loaf will be a few Weeks away.

I read a couple of your posts where you mentioned a lot of people buying lift tickets at the River and not just pass holders skiing there. I actually noticed that at the Loaf this past weekend too. I don't know if it was because the tin mountain round up but it seemed like most of the crowd bought tickets. Hopefully the early season openings are profitable for the resorts that do it. If it is maybe more resorts will follow suit next year.

Good info Mildcat. the tin mountain cups were different weekends at each mountain, so they probably got a buzz of that twice. I'm just glad that the efforts Boyne has put forth have been rewared by people coming out. Open and they will come. Ga2ski's words. Pretty true this year. Just nice to hear positive thingss about the ski season. not alot of bit--ing about the boyne resorts so far.
