Finally, my yearly group trip came around, and this year we decided to stay in the east and hit the Loaf. I have to say we had a fantastic week.

Monday was pretty good. The trails were a little firm but it was bluebird and we had the mountain to ourselves. The parks were great, especially the 3 jump line in the medium park. We played all day, then hit the Widowmaker lodge for a group gathering and St. Patty's celebration.

Tuesday was a lot like Monday, but warmer in the afternoon so the groomers were fast and carvable and the parks were where we played. With the help of some liquid courage and my friends pressuring me, I worked up the nerve to hit the large jumps. They were super fun! The perfectly formed kickers and smooth, steep landings were fantastic. The Loaf crew builds a nice jump. However, the third in the line at the large park was not built right. Even straight lining it with no speed checks one of my buddies came up short and messed up his heel. Too much pop and too long of a table made it almost impossible to reach the transition, so we avoided that one for the rest of our time. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme. Wednesday got cold and the trails became icy and scraped off by the afternoon. The clouds moved in be we had been hearing they were bringing 3-5 inches so we didn't mind.

Thursday morning I woke up to find that 11 inches had fallen over night and it was still coming down. We hopped on the snubber as soon as they'd let us and went straight for Bracket Basin. Shin-deep fresh tracks with deepers spots here and there kept an ear-to-ear grin on my face all morning. We found some cool chutes on a cliff band for a challenge and some nice 3-5 foot huckable cliffs a little farther down. We explored as much as we could until the temps turned the falling snow into a light drizzle. After that the snow got super heavy. We stayed out and as long as out legs would hold us up, buy being the 4th day of our trip, we didn't have much gas in the tank. We took a couple runs through the park to take advantage of the soft landings and then called it a day.

We had planned on riding Friday too, but after Thursday's epicness we figured it would be pretty anticlimactic. My friend and I decided to get a jump on the drive home instead. Besides, I was totally spent. The week long diet of wings and whiskey probably didn't help. Oh well, I was on vacation. Considering it only cost us $419/person for lift tickets and lodging in a ski in/out condo, I'd say we got our money's worth.

Now I get to look forward to finishing up my season out at Mt. Bachelor the first weekend of April. Woot woot!!
