Resort or Ski Area: Sugarloaf

Conditions: MG early, Spring corn by 11, Slushy by 2:00, with some fresh snow in pockets up top (The storm that blew through the other day was all rain at the bottom, the top couple hundred feet had some fresh snow that had been blown to skiers left (usually) of most of the trails. As Spillway was on a Windhold all day yesterday, a lot of it was untouched until today.

Trip Report: A great first Sugarloaf trip for me. I had a blast. When I got there around 9:30 the SuperQuad was spinning, but the Spillway lift was on Windhold.

They had done some grooming (<10 trails) overnight, and there was a pretty dire warning on the white board that nothing east of narrow gauge had been groomed, and due to the cold had set up hard and was for experts only. As a warmup I started with a lap on Narrow Gauge, and then Tote road. Both were groomed well, and fun cruises.

Next time up the SQ I noticed that Spillway was spinning and took Narrow Gauge over there. Going up Spillway there were some bare spots here and there, and you could feel the wind at the top that was the reason for the windhold. I took Spillway X-Cut all the way over to an ungroomed Ramdown and took that down to Lombard X-Cut and then Sluice back to Spillway. It was kind of firm, so I decided to take a lunch break to let things soften up.

When I went back out after my lunch, everything above the top of Double Runner East or so was wonderful corn snow that provided some fun ungroomed skiing for me.

I am exhausted, the mountain kicked my ass...

Also, PSA moment: don't forget your sunscreen. I left it in the car, and my neck and face are all sunburnt now... oops

I posted some pictures in a public facebook gallery: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=20932&id=1014816967&l=3bc9b433a2

I went back to my friend's condo at SR after skiing today, and I'm debating going back to SL tomorrow as their conditions are leaps and bounds above what I could see from the base of Barker this afternoon.

Damn, I was going to head up there today too but someone threw a wrench in my plans. I'll be up there next weekend though.
