after spending a couple days at the cat (tons of snow), i decided to take a drive and meet up with some family at the loaf. Let me start by saying how crazy deep it is. The conditions were a mix of powder, corn and some real heavy powder. i only ski 5 or 6 days a year at the loaf but have done so for 20+ years, and i've never seen snow so deep there. maybe some regulars have? grooming is down to basics, but adequate. narrow guage was near perfect around 10, along with everything to the right of the superquad. mid moring timberline opened, and we made a dash for the backside. snowfields are plastered with snow, and it was very very nice up there. the snow around king pine was difficult as not many folks have packed it down, but completely worth it to ski the back. front side was awesome as well, and there are lines through there i've never really considered a line. salsa shack area was insane, i hit nothing but deep snow all the way from up high (although i bit the dust a couple times). this snow will probably get even better with a proper corn cycle and more skier traffic. lot's of awesome bump lines developing where there's more traffic. weather was perfect bluebird, with brilliant sun, and minimal wind. get up there, weekend could be one for the books.
also... the cat should be pretty epic this weekend as well!!
