Area skied: Sugarloaf/ USA Maine
Date skied: April 8th, 2007 from 8:30am - 2:00pm
Surface conditions: Machine groomed, packed powder, loose powder in the glades.
Weather: very cold 18F at 8:30am, 30F at 2:00pm, sun and clouds, high wind, flurries.
Easter sunday dawned cold and sunny, with gusty winds which meant no lift serviced skiing to the summit today. The Superquad had mechanical trouble of some sort, so it did not run until 11:00am, which made runs take much longer to accomplish.
We started out skiing a deserted Tote Road after riding up Double Runner and the long side of Spillway. Winds at the top where harsh with single digit or below wind chills, even with some sun, ahh Sugarloaf in April. Tote Road was great and Chicken Pitch was silky smooth.
The Bucksaw chair was next and we skied a nicely groomed Scoot/Windrow and Warren found an Easter Egg on Windrow (curtesy of daddy :grin: ) and another one after skiing some powder in Boomscooter glade (that bunny must like powder)
Warren wanted to ski West Mountain and we took the loooooonnng run down to the West Mountain chair and took the even longer ride back up, but bailed out at the mid-station and skied West Mountain X-Cut down to Bucksaw and then skied over to Spillway West and skied a hardpacked Hayburner and a soft Candy Side.
The Superquad was now working so we skied Kings Landing and Narrow Guage top to bottom, and both where groomed with good snow conditions. Warren went off to ski off the Double Runner chair while I skied Bubblecuffer top to bottom which had huge bumps with slightly icy troughs.
Gondola Line was next up and the headwall below Spillway X-cut was an icy mess and I took a spill trying to slide down it to the huge soft bumps just below all of the ice. The rest of the way was good, but with very large moguls.
Warren and I meet up and took a run down Winters Way fromSpillway West, but he did not like the moguls, so we skied down a groomed Wedge to Boardwalk.
Our last run of the day was off of Whiffletree on Cruiser which had lots of soft mini moguls and a bit of untouched snow on the trail edges.
We stopped skiing at this point to enjoy the free season pass barbeque at the Sugarloaf Inn before driving home.
