Thsi isn't about expanding the ski area or their ability to build condo's on their land it' about being able to build condo's and call them slopeside thus tripling their value and profit. I don't think you would see such a fuss if it was truely a ski area expansion for improving the ski area but it appears to be for the sake of maximizing profits on a real estate development. Also the area has no lack of developements as it has been a resort for over 150 years.

The rich history of Lake Sunapee as resort area mainly from wealthy Bostonians is fascinating. If you check out the area you will find none of the typical ski resort big condo complexes. Check out Blodgett Landing, and other older developements like in Newbury on the southeaster corner of the lake and see how small the homes are and how close together they are.

Granted there are also a few mansions with big lots sprinkled around the lake and also a few new develpements with the typical mcmansions. These small properties in the older subdivisions are worth big bucks now. Riv's insight is the foundational reason state official's and locals are so against Sunapee's plans.
