Resort or Ski Area: Mount Sunapee, NH

Conditions: P/PP/Crud. Weather: Snow in the AM, partly cloudy with breaks of sun in PM.

Trip Report: Ms. Trailboss and I managed to get in some good turns today at Sunapee. We rolled out of bed a bit later than normal due to the Pat's game. The roads to the resort were rather :x due to new snow and not much traffic, but we made it in one piece. This was the first time I had to park waaaaayyyyyy down below this season and take the shuttle, but it was worth it.

First few runs were off of the North Peak because the HSQ was nuts. It never ceases to amaze me how people don't notice the other lifts at Sunapee, including the Triple which was pretty much 'ski on' all day long  First run was down Flying Goose, which had lots of powder on the side. Ms. Trailboss said that the upper headwall was scratchy on her side. Next, we tackled Goosebumps for the first time this season. I hugged skier's right and found some nice soft snow, but there was a bit more ice on the main pitch. I was also  to see just how not-so-steep this run was on skis--it was no steeper than the blue Lower Bear Den or Lower Willoughby at Burke and groomed just the same...and yet it was a double black? At any rate, it was nice. Last run on North Peak was down Lynx, where TB hit a bump just wrong almost biffing it. Like the other two, in good shape with soft snow on the edges and lots of crud from the previous night's snowfall.

With the sun poking through the clouds, we decided to descend into the Sunbowl via Cascades, probably the run of the day thanks to soft snow/crud and few people. Nice run. We spent the balance of the day yo-yoing off of the Sunbowl Quad hitting all of the runs on that side. The Liftline Bumps were icy. Kartwheel was scratchy as well. But Wingding, Skyway, and Sundance were all great with the crud and little ice. We also threw in an interesting Bonanza-Old Goat-Skyway run to mix it up. The HSQ unloading area was a disaster with folks everywhere.

Before lunch, Ms. Trailboss took Ridge all the way down and I took Blastoff, which was in decent shape. Ms. TB said Ridge was good with soft snow and few folks.

After lunch we hit Bonanza to Hansen Chase, which was not as pleasant as it appeared from the lift--lots of people and lots of ice. We did a couple more runs in the Sunbowl before taking ridge back to the base and calling it a day. Both of us were sore from a good day and did not want to get hurt too early in the season. Another good day on the slopes, a bit crowded, but we were able to ski around it

Guess you are spoiled...the lift lines on the HSQ yesterday were nowhere near as bad as I saw the two times I was there last year. Even the South Peak quad lines weren't too bad in the afternoon.

Only got one run off of the triple down Flying Goose later in the day...I need to improve my turns, though, so I can take advantage of all of the good stuff on the sides that the rest of you seem to enjoy.

Hope I stayed out of your way... 8)

I think they give Goosebumps a double black rating because they farm a bump run down skiers right. Some of the most uniform and perfectly spaced moguls I've ever seen  . A real treat to ski. Zipper lines everywhere.
