Trip Report: We took some midweek cruising runs at Sunapee today and were not disappointed. This was our friend's second day at the resort and she was impressed.
The morning started off with runs on the HSQ including Blast Off, Ridge, Bonanza, and Hansen Chase which had all been groomed and were nice, soft, deep, and empty!
We were drooling to get to the Sunbowl and opted to hit Upper Wingding first. As we rounded the corner from the HSQ, we were met by a Polar Express of wind, fog, and cold temps The upper part of this side was socked in until about half-way down the mountain. I headed down it and over to Liftline and Kartwheel. The former had some bumps on it which were icy :x and Kartwheel was in sweet.
Seeing that the weather on this one side was atrocious, which was odd considering that it was fine on Skyway Ledges just on the other side of the treeline, we decided to bail on the Sunbowl and instead skied the Skyway Ledges to the Triple and back into the lower part of the Sunbowl before taking a nice long run down Ridge to the Lodge for lunch. The snow was soft and empty here as well.
After lunch, the sun began poking through the clouds and the fog retreated allowing us to make a full assault on the Sunbowl. We hit pretty much every run over there thanks to much more gentle winds. Wingding was great and there was still fresh grooming on Skyway. Kartwheel and Sundance were sweet. Porky was fun as well. We logged in probably a half-dozen runs over here before taking a nice run down Blast Off. I still think that the Sunbowl Quad is running a bit faster than it did on the old drive. Either way, it was empty and a fun ride today
I closed with a run down Lynx, which was icy at the top but had some smooth grooming at the bottom. Was going to hit Goosebumps, but I did not feel comfortable taking it on in my 110 cm Atomic shorty skis
A nice day for some turns! Great grooming and cover to be had! Now for some more natural snow for the glades (Summit Glades were BARE) and natural runs.
