I'm Curious. For those of you who were brave enough to ski today, what kind of conditions did you experience?

We drove by Cranmore today, kinda hoping to ski. Well, it was open! So in we went. How this place wasn't a sheet of ice, I don't know. But there was about an inch of snow over the the base. It was crunchy, some places you had to be on your game, a very few trails were very nice. Wind was something else, it was straight up the mountain, which doesn't get the chairs swinging so they have to shut them down. Coming downhill, you were really slowed by some of the wind.

Just got back from SB. It has been snowing all day, but the wind has been howling as well. Only a few runs were groomed and only Gate House and Bravo were going. That said, I found the conditions to not be as bad as I thought...give them a day or two to groom and they will recover. Anything ungroomed is just treacherous...we're talking blue ice on some of the runs. :(

My son and I where considering skiing and snowtubing at Ski Ward because they have a two for one special on tickets until the end of the season on the 15th, but the high wind and icy conditions made us stay home.

The plan is to do this on wednesday night to take advantage of the extra daylight.

Just got back from Stratton, used our free tickets, and conditions were pretty good considering. The gondola was closed due to wind but the had groomed most of the trails. Conditions were hard pack frozen granular with some ice patches. Conditions were good enough that we skied until 3:00.

Skied Cannon today for $30 because the Cannonball Express Quad wasn't running. No crowds early and even less people as the day went on. By the time we left there was hardly anyone there.

I enjoy skiing on days like today. The weather was cold and Windy but the conditions weren't that bad. Frozen Granular on hardpack but still very edge able.

Was at Sundown today for a couple of hours mid-day and it was better than I expected. They did a nice job of grooming and the sunnny areas actually got soft despite a cold wind. Didn't stay long enough for the Temptor bumps to soften, but I'll bet they were pretty nice around 2:00PM. After yesterdays deluge, I was just glad to get out. Sundown still has good coverage and will probably run out of sliders before they run out of snow.

woah, ice & tubing? they'd have to stop you with a net. That sounds like a good day!

Skied Belleayre. Was cold and windy in the morning, and the rain froze a lot of the mountain into hard ice. They were blowing snow on March 10th! Where they were blowing, the conditions were superior. Got sunny in the afternoon and conditions on the previously hard trails improved.

Trip report and pics soon.

Skied at Pats Peak today. Conditions were rough in the morning (frozen granular and death cookies) but they softened up fine in the afternoon on many of the trails. There were a few ice patches around but not too bad at all. They did keep the ungroomed trails (including Hurricane) closed, which was a good thing.

Skied Sunday River yesterday... we got a slow start in the morning because we knew it would be interesting out there... We were at my buddy's condo at brookside and could see a few key lifts from the building... Tempest (needs to be running to not have to drive to Barker/South Ridge) wasn't running early, and when we made the decision to drive and started heading down we noticed it was running and skied down to it instead. from there we went over to south ridge and then back up to Spruce... that was all that ran all day due to wind and ice. First time I've ever skied SR and had the base of Barker be totally dead. Conditions on what they were able to groom were actually pretty nice... I stayed away from the ungroomed with a healthy amount of fear.

The ski report on RSN yesterday morning was amusing... I've never seen one like it before. It basically stated "due to the weather/wind we don't know what's going to run today... lift x may take you to trails y,z and alpha. Trails a,b,c were groomed last night, trail d wasn't, if for some reason you're looking for ungroomed today."

I got out at about 10.45 and skied on spruce at the River. Amex got better after a few runs. I skied over on to the north peak, escapde and grand rapids were actually fairly soft. Upper risky was firm. Lower left side was fine. I skied for a couple of hours and that was it. Not my best day out, but worth going.

Thanks for the reports. Thought things would be pretty nasty yesterday. Sounds like it wasn't too bad where they'd been able to groom. I suspect a few days of trail management and things won't be too bad. I'm guessing most non-groomed terrain is going to require some new snow.

Hunter was firm, but not all that shiny. Winds kept the quad running at slower than normal speed, and bump trails were all closed. The groomed skied OK-- but not so spectacular that I stayed out for more than a couple of hours.
