Great day so far. Got here at 9 am. Took about 1.5 hours. First time here, 1000 vertical. Half open . Nice terrain. Not to crowded st all. Snow packed and some death cookies( how can cookies be bad.) Nice family people here. I really like it so far. Got get back out and fully triep report later, food in lodge not so good. More snow making here then I expected. I will come back here for sure.

Scotty if you want good food stop at the diner right off the Claverack/Hillsdale exit of the Taconic (Chief Martindale Diner). It's right near Catamount. If you like fresh cod fish they have it Fri-Sun only. I'm talking fresh not frozen patties. Been going there for years. Stopped in there a few hours ago on my way home from VT. this evening for my fix.

Yes I passed that dinner didn't know if it was good. Thanks Steamboat 1 now when I on the Taconic in the area I will stop their for eating. I had some of the worst lodge ski food today and I have eaten plenty so the hills food. I thought about driving to a local place in Hillsdale , but was lazy today. I really like Catamont and am glad I made it.:)

Catamount is an awesome mountain. Catapult is one of the top 5 steepest slopes in MA. It's awesome when they let it bump up. The rest of the mountain has the best variety of any mountain for its size. The intermediate groomers on the front side, the rollers on the narrow Ridge, sunny beginner cruisers, the meandering Sidewinder, and moguls all over the expert trails. The only liftlines are on the Meadows Triple when all the families come. The Quad rarely has a line that's over 5 minutes, even on the busiest weekends. 20$ Monday tickets (if you buy online) are a steal. 60$ weekend tickets, however, are a different story. If you're part of a ski club you can get 49$ weekend tickets (not a great deal, but worth it, IMO).

East on Route 23 after about 15 minutes of getting off the Taconic Park Way you get to this hill. First time for me going east on this road. They did a great job grooming the bad snow from couple days ago. So high speed chairs but I like that. Lots of forest looks like off map gladed when they get snow. One trail actually puts you in MA so you take turns in two states on one hill ( and some plant is decriminalization already in MA) . Temperatures was in the upper 20s in the morning I guess and maybe came close to 30s by afternoon. I still couldn't find my goggles so I went into the hills shop and they had basic one for $30 I should did that in the morning. When I got their they were making snow on some of the closed trails. Left side of the hill is only beginners trails that were open but that is good because I found the best snow conditions on that side. Expert trail on right are good 3 ways down . Sun try to come out and did around 2 ish. I skied from 9 am 3pm. It was a good 2 day out . I think a powder day here you might get more then one run before it gets skiied off. I probably go back a few times this winter. If you enjoy the Catskills I recommend checking this place it only about 45 miles east of Hunter actually same road route 23.

Chief Martindale rules. Good prices too.

Yeah I think the cod on a bun is only $6.95. The cod nuggets or full cod diner is only a couple of bucks more. I try to stop there whenever I'm traveling on a weekend. Unfortunately most of the time I'm traveling during the week so I don't get to eat there as much as I'd like. It's also in a good location for me being that's it's roughly half way from NYC to Rutland or visa versa. I stop there specifically for their cod.

Love Catamount and started skiing there. My dad and I were able to hit it during a 30" dump about 10 years ago. I remember jumping 5-6' drifts at the top of Catapult and Upper Glade. Nice to see a report from there and that it is open early. It seems to take a back seat to Jiminy despite having better terrain.

I like it more then Jiminy. I guess the people who don't know go to Jiminy.

I go to Catamount and Jimminy both the same number of times each year. Both are completely different mountains. It would be like comparing Killington to Okemo. Both totally different and impossible to compare.

Totally agree.

Jiminy is a groomer hill; they make a lot of snow and they groom meticulously. A few short steep pitches are allowed to bump up.

Catamount is a bit more old school.
