Just got this:

Everyone who got out on the snow on Saturday needs a little relief from all that sun, so we ordered up some clouds for today. Forecasts are calling for clouds today, with a chance for light snow to start sometime this afternoon. The grooming crew had a full night, going over about 35 of the 41 open trails and slopes. You should find some great smooth cruising snow out there this morning.

9 lifts will operate starting at 8:30am. Remember, your first shot at this great snow is the first tracks tramcar at 8:15, and for $2 more than your adult ticket, purchased at the tram, we’ll throw in breakfast. Tickets Saturday are $54 for adults, $39 for teens, and 29 for juniors and seniors. Don’t forget that you can enjoy the Brookside Area for only $25 - that includes 3 lifts and 9 trails, with intermediate and beginner terrain.

Sunday is Audi owners Appreciation Day- arrive in your Audi at Peabody, and the driver plus one passenger can ski for $14 each.

Interesting. People who can afford Audi's are the least likely to need a discount!

not to mention they are least likely to ski cannon in deference to more posh resorts with slope side and condos. interestingly enough, i have found that a lot of people that are well to do are very good at pinching pennies...

Perhaps. It depends how new it is. An older one may require the equivalent of trip to Utah in repairs every few months.

Of course... that's how a lot of them become so well to do. Acquaintances of ours with six-figure incomes get the calculator out when the dinner tab comes to figure the tip (god forbid they pay a penny more than 15 percent) while the rest of us are just putting down 20 percent.

Needless to say, we don't eat out with them any more. In fact, we don't do much of anything with them.

I had an 1985 Audi 5000, 5 spd (purchased new) some years ago. I loved everything about the car. Roominess, handling (awesome in snow), fuel economy, and a true "Autobahn Cruiser (I have driven over 15K miles over unlimited speed limit European roads.) BUT, in the first two years the dealer did over $4,000 in warranty repairs. After the warranty expired, I put another $2,000 in PARTS into the car. I can do all maintenance and repairs myself, so I didn't have to pay for labor. I gave up at 126K miles on the clock and sold it for a couple of hundred dollars to a young guy as a "parts car." It was cutting into my ski budget in a major way!!!!!!

Interesting deal  I agree that those folks aren't the ones who need the deal, but can you say the same for "Jeep Owner Appreciation Days?"

I guess it depends on how you draw the lines...

I recall working in the US Senate and both parties throw around the term "middle class" without defining it really. One man's rich person is another's poor.

I remember attending a little party shortly after college (80's) where everybody work Birkenstocks and drove VWs. They were making fun of the yuppies with BMWs. I found it amusing.

Farfernugen! (I'm sure that must be spelled wrong)

Kinda like driving a Buick and making fun of Caddy owners.

How many degrees of separation?

Actually...Audi's are big pieces of crap plagued with numorous problems...the worst being electrical. I've had not one but 2 friends have there's BURN from electrical problems. Audi owners need a discount due to their cars problems bankrupting them....

Way back in the early 1970's, back in BC (before children) my wife and I had matching BMW 2002's. That was in the days when Americans had no clue what BMW stood for (Bayrische Motoren Werke) but they also couldn't understand why I was passing them on twisty roads. I paid $3205 for my 72 with a 4 speed, picked up at the factory in Munich. We drove the first 3,000 miles on a lot of "no limit" Autobahns back then. We got all the way south to Barcelona, and all the way north to Stockholm. It was a blast. When we got back she wouldn't relinquish the car so I found a used 70 2002 for $1600 (The guy couldn't get anyone to fix his mysterious ignition problems, which was not a problem for me.) and we played tag on the parkways working our way as a team around commuter traffic. I finally sold both of them in 1977. I sold the 72 for $4200 and the 70 for $2100. That was the most profit I ever made on selling a couple of cars with over 100K on the clocks. Sadly, I watched subsequent "Beamers" become absurdly complex (technology applied for its own sake, not just to improve the vehicles.) and outrageously expensive to maintain. I bought the 85 Audi thinking it was equal in quality to those previous Beamers. I was sadly mistaken. In any case, I can afford a BMW or an Audi but I choose to drive an 03 Hyundai GT with a 5speed. I did some minor suspension tweaking (larger diameter rear sway bar for $130, a front strut tower brace for about $75, and for summer use, a wheels and tires upgrade) Everyone who has gotten a chance to ride in it or drive it is amazed at the handling. It has virtually all the bells and whistles of the Audis and Beamers (except for the rediculous navigation system, since I can actually read a map) gets 32 -35 mpg at 75mph+, and cost me $13,600 new. I would rather spend my money actually skiing, then on the ride to get there. BTW, at 52K miles it has yet to make a visit to the dealer for absolutely anything. The warranty is 5years/60K bumper to bumper, 100 K on the drivetrain, 5 years "roadside assistance." Don't even talk about resale. Who cares what I can get for it after 200K, which is what I plan to drive it to.

The word is FAHRVERGNÜGEN with the "umlaut," the two little sound changing dots over the letter "U" which makes it sound like "eee."

It means "Joy in driving."

I was born in Austria, and German is my native language.
