MRG will be pretty thin on Sunday.

Bush will be good, and it's the last day for Mt. Ellen.

Can't speak to Stowe or Whiteface conditions... haven't been there this year.

If it's warm enough, the trees above 3000' or so might be okay. I'm not certain, however. I haven't been in the trees for a couple of weeks.

Bumps at Sugarbush?

Any informed opinions out there as to snow cover on trails on Castle Rock at Sugarbush?
Their ski reoprt shows that they are open. The freeze-thaw cycles must be making some great corn up there. I'm just concerned about thin cover.
I'm thinking about hitting it this Saturday.

son of Angus mentioned Sugarbush for Saturday- question would be how much can we expect it too loosen/soften up. & generally for a daytripper from Boston given Saturday's forecast highs, are you better to stay further south - say Sunapee? oh decisions!

Keep checking to see if the summit quad is open. If it is, there will be long leg burning steep terrain open here at WF. No more trees or at least I wont go in there.

Stowe does get more snow and they are more liberal as to what they keep open.

I can give you the skinny on WF and even show you around. I ski fast and dont stop. We three minute rule each other there would ne no exceptions for strangers. I dont mean that in a bad way we ski fast and dont make anyone wait.

Sugarbush update:

-should still have 101 trails for Sunday (91% open), all of which are completely skiiable
-both mountains will still be operating
-probably 13 or 14 lifts
-awesome bumps on Cliffs, FIS, Exterm, Bravo at Mt. Ellen; Steins, Twist, Castlerock, Paradise, etc. at Lincoln Peak
-base is still 12-58", and these past few cold days have held off further melting
-trees could be a bit scary, but probably still skiable above 3000'. I won't be in them, however.
-some fun bumping to watch... the MogulLogic camp (hosted by David Babic) will be held at Mt. Ellen (I'll be doing it)
-full terrain park w/quarter pipe still at full ops (if interested)
-crowds shouldn't be bad at all, especially at Mt. Ellen

Stowe is down to 37 trails FWIW, but I don't know how the skiing is there right now.

I dont think you will be upset with either. WF is certainly an easier trip. About 45 minutes quicker each way. You will Like WF less terrain but longer steeper trails.

I've never been to WF either, but the only warning (and it may or may not be true) I'll give is that I've heard it's in general a racers' mountain... they groom about 80-90% of their trails, including most of the steepest runs. After looking at the trail/groom report, this would appear to be pretty accurate. So if you want long, groomed steeps... WF looks great. But for bumps, you'd be much better off at SB, based on WF's grooming report (only 8 of 33 expert trails were ungroomed last night, and that doesn't necessarily mean bumps).

At this point in the season (in light of the warm temps) I'd be a little wary of their base at WF as well. According to their site, the average depth is 22-32, which is decent... but based on some recent pics and webcams, there are quite a few bare spots. Perhaps someone who's been there in the past week can confirm or deny?

I'm not trying to pull you away from WF, but I am trying to find the best snow for you.

some bare spots but the base depts are accurate. upper mountain has some bare patches where it is steep on granite but other than that lots o snow. Bush will have more bumps trails. You will however be able to ski 3k vert of bumps here if that is what you are looking for.
for the most part it is a steep and groomed. Not to many people would be able to ski the stuff and have fun if they let it bumped up to much. OK gots to go glenn gary boys becken
either way have fun
