Date(s) Skied: 4/23/11
Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River
Conditions: Groomed corn in the morning, wet fresh later
Trip Report:
After skiing Wildcat yesterday, I headed for the Loaf. I hadn't realized I'd be passing right by Sunday River, never been. Took a ride up to check out the Mt. at 7:30. I ended up buying a ticket from a guy from NYC for $20. Groomers only in the AM, they skied great, weren't rock hard. Very flat light, was the only drawback. Two lifts were running, Barker Mountain Express, White Cap Quad. Saw my first Chondola! Weird. Soon the flurries started to fly, before long there was about four inches of heavy wet snow on the trails. It skied pretty good, it was a lot of work, and there was the chance of it grabbing you, but it never happened. The cold wet snow felt good on my sunburned face. What a difference a day can make! I called it a day by two, I was soaking wet and tired. Great day for $20. Looked and felt like February.
Free lift tickets tomorrow, last day of the season. I'm still undecided wether to go there or Sugarloaf. I wish I'd have known I could have stayed overnight there for $35, I spent $60 for a room in town. I don't know if this deal is available Sunday night, since they aren't open Monday. It may require double occupancy, doesn't say on the website. I think I might ski there Sunday and ski the Loaf Monday for my last day of the year.
