Thanks. I never have the time to get up that way so I’d hate to audible to sugarbush where I come all the time. But shit the bush is skiing great RIGHT NOW. Having some hopes for tonite to produce for Maine. I have til 6 pm today to cancel my sugarloaf hotel with no penalty. I have back ups in Waitsfield and Burlington I can cancel til tmrw afternoon

Maine skiers - what’s with sugarloaf and saddlebacks low terrain numbers and will there be expansion for the holidays? I have to imagine loaf is blowing like crazy, and about to get 4+” too..,
Loaf is cranking now, but their total nominal capacity is half of Sunday River's, so it takes more time to move the water. They (and Saddleback) usually benefit from more natural snow, but that last liquid event took a toll (Sugarloaf had a fair bit open on natural snow before that).

We were at Sunday River this past Monday and Tuesday, then Sugarbush Thursday - Saturday. There is next to no snow at elevation in Maine compared to Vermont, not a chance you would be skiing a natural snow run those two days compared to being able to ski them at Sugarbush, assuming you could get to them ;)
There's noticably more snow on the ground at the bottom of the Sugarloaf access road then on Sunday River road. I haven't poked around off the groomed enough at either to tell you how, if at all, that translates to snow on the mountain.

Thanks. Yea, I saw sugarloaf putting up big numbers before the wet came and I just didn’t realize how much worse they’ve recovered compared to VT

I canceled the sugarloaf hotel. The getting in VT is really good right now and it’s only gonna get better tomorrow. And much less driving.

Always something with sugarloaf and me. Very poor/mixed luck. I’ll get it prime eventually

I’m gonna go home for Christmas after skiing tomorrow and drive back north on the 26th. Stay in Waitsfield. Ski sugarbush jay and Bolton til 12/31

Thanks for the intel!

I find prime days at Sugarloaf to be the most elusive of any mountain in New England. I've had them, but I've had so many more days impacted by wind or a snow drought.

Last spring I finally got to saddleback for the first time, and had a great day at sugarloaf with unexpected snow squalls dropping a quick 2-3” that skied great.

But still never been there in full on mid winter 100% open + ski brackett etc

saddleback was super fun and the snow was great but Casablanca was not open.

Every year I tend to schedule it for Xmas when I have the time, and end up calling an audible. Then I pivot to Easter weekend, when I have the time again…

lol wow. Maine trees, which is one of the best medical producers in Maine, just released their winter packaging.

I can’t recommend these guys enough to anyone who imbibes. If you have a medical card from any state you can buy in Maine medical dispensaries, which are the only places that stock Maine trees and their sister brand Bs Trees. Their strain blue lobster won a ton of awards. They’re putting western growers to shame. I got a Maine plug in NYC and I’ve really leveled up and am only smoking really really high end cannabis lately

One of the reasons I was bummed to cancel sugarloaf is because it’s cheaper to go to a Maine med dispo than getting from my nyc Maine guy

Last few early-mid winters have been rough for ME. But March and April are as dependable as you’ll get for conditions here.

The Sugarloaf today board also reported the that last big non-frozen event caused the pump intake at the river to get clogged. Don't know if its cleared fully or not.

Skied SR today. Executive summary: many people relative to the trail count. Yes, they were spinning a lot of lifts, but the trips down were *crowded*.
ROTD: Obsession. There are huge (12-20 foot) whales on White Heat waiting for the rain to pass.
Silly highlight to report to the 20something kids: High-fives with Eddy the Yeti in the Chondola lift line.

Did the River do a ton of resurfacing after that last event? I just checked out the Trail Report and was really surprised at how much terrain there is left to cover.

They hammered Lolla for days and I know Road Runner got another coat along with AmEx. Beyond that, not much. I was bit surprised the only running guns all weekend were Lolla, Excalibur (which was absolutely exceptional man made when the rope dropped), Paradigm, Wildfire and Bear Paw. Felt like they had more in the system they could have been doing, especially Sunday after Lolla came offline.

Thank you.

It seems they are back on track now on expansion.

Yep, still seems like a lot to go.
To me, they always seem to slow coming out of Xmas /NY and then accelerate going into MLK. That said, with how behind we are from the warm November and how cold and dry it is now, I would think they would want to flex their muscle they have been building up the last 4 years or so and absolutely blow the doors off the place.

My daughter, who along with the rest of her college ski team has been up at SR for about a week now, says that the snow surface has been quite good (granted she's mainly been around the Barker area for training purposes). She definitely is looking forward to checking out the Ice Igloo over at Jordan today, as today is her 21st birthday... what could possibly go wrong! :D

January 9? Well done, you did a much better job of gaming the youth ski race calendar than us.

Kind of screwed up with the younger kid though (just barely) his birthday is 12/29.... Really made a difference when he went up to U14's! :p

Well, if she has your credit card - you will be impressed by the size of the bill!!! Not cheap to drink there, but certainly worth it on her birthday. It's a cool place!
