Date(s) Skied: Sunday, 12/7
Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River
Conditions: Hard pack, frozen granular
Trip Report:
Departed for the River at 6:10 and was on the snow at 9AM. First thing I headed straight to T2 as I had read on here about a few bump lines that had been roped off for a freestyle team, but you could duck the rope and ski them if no one was around. This proved to be true and there was a good 25 young bumpers skiing a course of about 15 bumps followed by an air and then another 10 finishing out the bottom. They were doing laps and hiking back up with a couple of coaches barking out instruction. I stopped briefly to watch envious of the sweet line they had to ski and also the skills that some of these kids had, particularly off the air. I finished off the run and spent the next hour and a half covering all they had open on Barker and Locke. It was pretty much scraped off hard pack with pockets of frozen granular from the get go. It was nice to make a lot of big arcing turns skiing fast, but I always hold back a fair bit on those conditions unlike velvety packed powder where I'll let em run as fast as I can.
I worked my way across from Locke to Barker to Spruce and then Aurora hitting everything they had open. Northern Lights on Aurora was fun. It had not been groomed flat, so it was loaded with whale everywhere that were pretty well scraped being day two it was open, but still fun. Lower Risky Business had some bumps skiers left that were decently formed, but hard as rocks. If I had a crew with me, they might have been worth skiing into shape.
At 11:30 I swung into the bar at Barker and had a beer with Terry and his wife, also met JerryG his wife and a few other nice folks. They opted for a second round and I opted to head back out as I wanted to leave in time to get home to watch the Patriots with J. I went back to T2 hoping the freestyle team had left, that had not, but there were only about 10 kids now. They were letting people ski one of the two lines, but it was pretty played out, rutty and jarring. I was still pumped as it was the first at least somewhat decent bumps I have skied this year. I did that twice and then on my last run of the day I said F it. There were no kids waiting to ski the reserved line, so I just charged down it, the coach yelling at me the whole way  Though for only 15 bumps, it was sweet and exactly the feeling I wanted.
Dick move or someone in severe need of a bump fix; I'll let you be the judge
No photos unfortunately. I took the camera out, but the battery was dead.
So that's that, day 3 in the books, looking forward to next Sunday wherever my ski travels take me.
