I am likely skiing Sundown this Sunday Jan 31st.

Here's the deal -

- I am taking my 4 year old daughter skiing for the first time. (It is where I learned to ski in the early 80s so this will be great for me, and for her)
- My wife and newborn son will also be joining
- We are meeting up with other relatives who have little kids and are coming up from NYC
- NOTE: I will def get a few runs on the bumps, so hopefully there are some good ones to ski. And in exchange for your advice in planning my trip, hit me up for some FREE mogul lessons if you want :)

Questions:
1) Does Sundown have babysitting for kids who are less than 1?
2) Where is the best, cheapest, nicest local lodge to stay ?
3) Are any of you AZers going to be there on Sunday?
4) Given today's thaw, will Sundown put down some good snow before Sunday?

Please give advice ... we are very excited as a family to hit the mighty Sundown. There are many other choices obviously, so I want to be sure I'm pushing10+ other people to make the right one; by choosing Sundown.

B, sundown is so close to farmington/avon/even hartford that your choice of lodging depends on what you want. the avon old farms is only 15 minutes and even downtown hartford is only 25-30 minutes.

babysitting, i dont think so but maybe pm chris sullivan. he'll answer that for sure.

the bump or bust comp is the day before but there are almost always az people there, any day of the week. at least i can say that the bump lines should be skied in deep and tight for sunday.

with the forecast for bitter cold by the end of the week and the comp being held on saturday, i'm sure the bumps will see snowmaking but i can just about guarantee that the whole hill will be completely refreshed as soon as temps allow. again, Chris Sullivan can answer those questions as he is the man with the plan over there.

No babysitting, sorry. I joked about it one time on their fan page and was told that I'm hired.

Cheap motels in Torrington (Days Inn or something like that... there are two, one on Winsted Road, the other on East Main Street). If you want "nice" accommodations, then you'll want to head in the Avon/Farmington direction like 2knees suggested. Coco Key is in downtown Waterbury, which ends up being 35-40 min away depending on how fast you drive and the traffic.

Yup, sorry no babysitting, though it's something I always thought they should have. For lodging; I haven't stayed in anything in the area since I live here, so I can't say how nice they are or not. As mentioned above you'll be looking at 15-20 minutes away at a minimum I'd guess. Probably the closest is the Hillside Motel in Canton (closer to 10 minutes away??). It looks okay from the road, but I don't think it has much for amenities (just a place to stay). The others mentioned good options further away, since I imagine you'll be looking for more than just a place to stay.

I'm pretty certain that they will start laying some snow down once the temps return to favorable levels. Like 2knees said; our bump comp is the day before so I think they'll at least be in good shape. ;)

There's usually a few AZers out there on Sundays, this past Sunday a few of us brought our young kids for a kids day. I may try to bring my daughter back out this Sunday, depending on what's going on. It would be cool to meet you if I end up going.

The others covered things well. You can always poke around the Sundown lodging options here on AZ. I believe they want to start resurfacing tomorrow night and hope to do so at night into the weekend. I suspect Temptor will get some attention so the bumps should be well covered, and after the comp on Saturday, there should be some good lines. However, the kickers will shorten an already short bump run, but it still should be fun. Might be there on Sunday with the family perhaps.

i purposely didnt mention that place. I think they rent rooms by the hour there.....

That's quite possible. I really know nothing about it, other than it's got to be the closest place to stay....

Just a heads up! There is a CYSL ski race on Sunday at Sundown for 250 kids so things might be a little busy especially in the lodge.
