That spryte is used all the time. It's a work horse that was rebuilt 2 summers ago and should be around for a lot longer. We move equipment with it. check that timeline for pictures of when it was the groomer with the powder makers behind it. Powder makers. HA

I couldn't find any pictures of the Spryte in the timeline pics? Only the groomer in the first pic, that appears to be the Tucker.

Not enough clearance. Q&A #5:

http://skiing.alpinezone.com/articles/challenge/2006/response.htm?resort=sundown

Some sick lines could be had on those though; if there was enough snow of course...

Actually, check out the pic from 1972 and look how wide the current lift 2 liftline was:

That upper section would've made for some sick terrain. It's much narrower now:

awesome shot. there used to be an unloading station where it currently widens out. cant remember for sure but i think the thing was still there in the mid 80's.

I noticed that too, it's amazing how much it's filled in since then. From the looks of it I bet you were allowed to ski down under the lift, at least the lower section from the mid station.

For those who don't know; after that double was replaced by the current CTEC triple in 87 it was revived and upgraded several years later and now serves as chair 3, servicing Little Joe.

This thread is getting me pumped for nighttime Sundown bump sessions. I love that little hill...

The mid station must have been there until 87 when they installed the current triple.

This brings back memories:
1987_photo.lg.jpg

I remember that pamphlet, I had several. I think that was the first year I started skiing. It had to be 87 or 88, they definitely had the new triple when I started. Good times, good times.

My question is this; according to the timeline Sundown opened in Dec of 69, wouldn't that make this the 39th year? I guess they're counting when it was open as Satan's Ridge too (I know it was only open a short time, but only one season?)?

EDIT: Look at the picture of lift 1, the evergreens around it were so small back then. They're ginormous now!

IMHO the time line posted on their web site is incomplete and Sundown should actually be celebrating more than their 40th anniversary....... :-o

Anyone care to take a stab at the year, type and make of the first lift installed on Ratlum Mountain?

Not the Double? I know there was at least one t-bar and a rope tow in the early days. Is this when it was Satan's Ridge, or something else? I didn't think it operated for very long as Satan's Ridge before changing to Sundown in 69...

If the first lift you're referring to was the double I believe that was a Hall, not sure on the year though.

Tell us what you know! Please...
