i wish i skied with a camera when i was younger. It was a somewhat common occurence to have it bumped.

I want to say it was the end of my first full season skiing so probably March of 1995, and I clearly remember a 50+ degree day and some truly sick lines on Gunbarrel. It might have just been my gaper status, but I recall them being big and deep. I also recall some teenage girls ripping through them.

Not the Double? I know there was at least one t-bar and a rope tow in the early days. Is this when it was Satan's Ridge, or something else? I didn't think it operated for very long as Satan's Ridge before changing to Sundown in 69...

If the first lift you're referring to was the double I believe that was a Hall, not sure on the year though.

Tell us what you know! Please...

To the best of my knowledge:

The first lift installed at "Satan's Ridge" was a 1963 Hall T-Bar that I'm almost certain, followed the same lift-line as the removed Mueller double chair and the present day CTEC triple. You might say I'm crazy but next time you ride up the CTEC triple at Sundown, look down and take note of the two distinct sets of abandoned lift footings.

Regardless, I still can't pinpoint what year the original Mueller double was installed??? IMHO it has to be after 1963, but was it before Mr. Murdock bought the area???

BTW, On a historical side note, there is a little bit of Mohawk in Sundown.........
Channing Murdock worked under and was mentored by Walt Schoenknect for severals years at both Mohawk and Mount Snow before moving on to create Butternut and Sundown as we know them!

I've ridden that triple many many times and even walked down the lift line on several occasions. I never noticed two different sets of abandoned footings, but I was looking for them either. I'll have to look once the lifts are spinning again this year.

Thanks for all the info!
