good afternoon -

I'm trying to squeeze a day hike into a wedding trip next weekend. I'm looking for a decent workout (5-6 miles) with a good view, preferably not with ski lifts. hopefully the weather cooperates.

I've got good trip reports for Cardigan & Kearsage, any others to check out?

has anyone hiked the Fox State Forest Ridge Trail?

Kearsarge will give you a good quick hike, but nothing really over 3 miles. Though I think the Lincoln trail from Kearsarge to Kearsarge Regional High School is about 5 miles. Not the best for round trips, but it's something. If you want to do something at Sunapee, try the Summit trail to Lake Solitude Trail to Newbury trail to Rim Trail to the Sun Bowl road and that should be about 5.5 miles. I did that loop about 10 years ago now, but it still was a good hike. The Bowl road is kind of boring, but you do get the views from the top of Sunapee, and from the White Ledges at Lake Solitude.

The Monadnock Sunapee Greenway should end at Sunapee. I'm not familar with it other than seeing some info online & several day trips up Monadnock. I would think you could find more info on line, including perhaps through the NH State Parks site. I've seen a map of the whole route, I suspect there might be somthing online that would allow you to focus on a particular part like Sunapee.

Jonni's got te right trail in mind, The Andrews Brook Trail to Lake Solitude (and eventually to Sunapee Peak if you don't mind hiking ski trails) is a favorite of ours in southern NH :)

You can take the Andrew Brook Trail to the Solitude trail and then to the Summit Trail. That would give you about 5 miles. The Summit trail would allow you to avoid ski trails except for the last 0.1 mile of the Solitude trail as it's on a ski trail. Though you'd have to spot cars as it's around 6 miles or so back to the Andrew Brook Trailhead on Mountain Rd. from the base of Mt. Sunapee.
