i prefer to label myself conservative rather than chicken ;-)

we got a trampoline this fall (used for $50 from a friend who was moving). i told my wife it was for the kids but secretly i was hoping to help improve my air-ness by using it. notice i used the phrase "was hoping". First day on it i sprained my knee

seeing how i missed most of the summer with a broken collar bone now i'm gun shy about going back on the tramp for fear of really screwing up and affecting the upcoming ski season.

getting old sucks.

we don't stop playing because we get old. we get old because we stop playing.

Trampoline is a good idea! Is it big enough to wear your skis on?? Sucks that you sprained you knee on it though. I can totally see the being gun shy part, especially with your recently injured collar bone...

i thought about that, i saw a youtube video of a guy wearing skis on a tramp and doing flips and stunts. our tramp has a 6 foot net around it, not sure what would happen if a caught a tip in that while in the air :-o

That sounds like a recipe for disaster! Maybe not such a good idea...

Let's see where do I start? I need to get my hands and shins forward more, stop the darn back seating! Unfortunately that my defensive mode, I know that's not the best, but it kinda works for me.... Between now and then, I need to strengthen my core muscles, that's a really weak point for me has been forever. Yes it does suck getting old, then on top of it an hour commute and a desk job. I have to find a way to keep motivated the minute I get home, cause if it doesn't happen then, it doesn't happen. But I think if I can keep my hands and shins forward more that'll help quite a bit. I'm sure there's other things I could work on, but that's one of my biggest problems. And BTW I do love watching the vid's, they are so inspiring. I try to visualize myself trying some of the techniques.....Any suggestions, ideas would be great.

maybe flailing is a bit excessive but you know what i mean. its all relative to where you are and where you want to be. When i ski, i feel like i have decent shin pressure and relatively quiet hands but then i see the evidence and its definitely not where i want to be.

fair enough

I guess I somewhat lack aspiration technique wise these days....though that would probably change in a hurry if I saw myself on camera. I've only been video taped once in my life skiing and that was in HS. I imagine it wouldn't be pretty today though .

Perhaps I need to see myself on camera to know what I really need to improve. Because I haven't seen myself ski, right now it feels like there are only two determining factors for how well I ski....fitness and repetition. Fitness I can control quite easily, repetition not as much. If I hit 25 days this winter, I'll be psyched, but I feel if I got out there 40+, the difference in my skiing from mid winter on would be appreciable better and that's without even focusing on technique.

Seeing yourself on video is at first fun, then aggravating.

Free skiing, i dont want to see my technique or analyze it either. I'm talking about straight bumpin here.

alright, then you definitely need to quit bending over for your camera man pal Greg, ski taller and keep your hands more quiet.

....other than that that....you kill it ;)

back on the tramp.. can't nail the front flip yet.. i've got the rotation but can't stick the landing. not sure this will help me with getting good air while skiing but it sure is fun !!

Better speed control in the bumps, keeping my elbows closer to my torso in pole planting. Shortening my pole length helped that a lot. I think what everyone is talking about with "getting hips forward" is helped by imagining there is an imaginary rope tied to your belt buckle and pulling it down the slope in front of you. All of my bump buddies have what we call "bump back" at the end of the day from arching our backs with this technique. Our backs have muscle ache at the belt line at days end.

ok so i picked up my new boots and skis from alpine haus yesterday and i'm all primed for ski season. I had put together a short video of various clips from last year. I'm gonna put last years vid up now and compare that to how this year shakes out over time. I always talk about correcting my hands and getting more forward but never do anything about it. this year is the year. and now i have to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

07 - 08 flailing in the bumps.

Great skiing in there. You just need to add some music :p. I'm loving that line from :58 to 1:19. Where is that?

I actually pieced something together using the Mt. Snow footage that Greg sent me. It's fun and a helpful tool at the same time. The problem areas jump right out at you. It becomes almost painful to watch (where's the cringing smiley).

I cant imagine what you could be cringing about. You have that "world cup" form down perfect. hell, i'd sell my first born to ski bumps like you.

Same here, along with footage from the Sundown comp. Although I threw in a little bit of a twist, doing each run, and then again at 1/2 speed. I really like slow-motion for figuring out what's going on.

I really need shorter poles.
