Resort or Ski Area: 10e

Conditions: Ghost Town

Trip Report:

Well, I had a surprise day off so for $15 I figured I'd go see what 10e was all about. When I arrived around 10AM there were maybe 30 or so cars in the lot... summit double was down but the ticket girl said they were working on it so I went ahead and purchased... they had the double up again by about 10:30. Good thing because the triple was agonizingly slow. I'd say about half the trails were open... those that were groomed were in OK shape considering, coverage was good, it was that sort of firm corduroy but no cookies to speak of. And with only a few dozen people on the hill at any one time, nothing got skied off which was a plus. Ungroomed trails were kind of sketchy, thin cover but kudos to 10e for at least trying to keep things open. (I think Rivercoil has been poisoning my mind ;-) I actually was having fun navigating around the sticks and stones.) I can see how this would be a fun hill to ski once in awhile if everything was open, but the lift/lodge layout stunk and too many trails had the same double-fall-line-left orientation. Overall this place is swimming in Ragged's shoes, but still, it was an interesting trip back in time.

Update 3/17/2006 - after spending a partial day at Crotched, I am realizing how much fun I actually had at 10e - definitely will be checking them out again next season.

When I was there a few weeks ago there was an old guy at the top of the triple who called out when to get off of the lift...I usually don't have problems unloading but I thought it was nice since that lift services the easier terrain and the lift likely gets its share of novices.

The double not running....that is interesting. I had the SAME thing happen to me 2 years ago and someone else who wrote a report had the SAME thing happen. Must be kind of like the mysterious midweek windholds that take place at Sugarbush
