Tequilla?

Gave up beer a while ago. Tequilla's become my full time drink...in moderation.

True, most of the time I drink Sauza Gold swill mixed with whatever's on hand. If I have the choice (or someone else is paying), Sauza Hornitos Reposado, or Corozan de Agave Anejo (yum) or, once or twice a year, Cuervo Reserva de la Familia.

Anyone else like tequilla?

High end tequilla is really good and I approve. The low end swill most people drink is okay for mixers (especially if not the primary mixer!). I'll do a shot of swill socially if someone else buys. That is about it. The good stuff I will drink any day I feel like I can actually afford it. My tastes in likkers tend to run towards the expensive side.

Currently behind my bar:

Don Julio Blanco
Cabo Wabo Anejo
Patron Silver
Gran Centenario Anejo
Shwag Jose Cuervo Especial

I've also tried the Suaze Gold. I really liked the Suaza Hornitos. Suaze gold and Cuervo go in the margaritas. But I usually find a good deal on the Don Julio which I use in my margaritas. The others I do with some rocks and a squeeze of lime. Lately I have been into the good stuff, some orange or orange/pineapple juice, splash of seltzer, and a twist of lime. YUM

For Margerita's or with salt and lemmon I go with Jose Cuervo Gold

Straight up or for a better Margerita I like these two:

Patron Anejo
Corazon de Agave Blanco

Tequila's great, the one alcohol that doesn't put me to sleep. ;)

Try mixing up equal parts orange juice and bloody mary mix, with a little extra hot sauce if you like, and drink that as a chaser for sipping tequila. It's how they do it in Mexico, and it's fantastic. They actually serve the tequila in a white wine glass. Really really good.

Cuervo is not tequila. It might be "tequila flavored" but it's not tequila. Sauza Hornitos is good, and I do like the Heurradura. Don Julio is generally good, but well overpriced, I think. A good Reposado is a thing of beauty.

Now that just sounds ill.

I have a friend who does a lot of driving all over NE for work. He always grabs me a handle when in NH.

Interesting. I was just looking at a bottle of Cuervo in the cabinet I won at a stag a few months ago, wondering to myself, "what the hell am I going to do with that?" Never been a tequila fan, but never really had any good tequila. With that said, I'm not one to leave booze, even shwag booze, just lying around the house for too long. So, what's a good thing to mix with Cuervo?

I like the mix above. The OJ or OJ/pineapple gives it a good taste. The club soda helps to cut the sweetness a bit.

... I really liked the Suaza Hornitos.
One of the things I miss about California, Rite Aid booze sales: Sauza Hornitos for ~13, hand of Tanq ~20. Everyone talks about how cheap NH booze is (insert TGG Nonono2 here.

High end tequila has just gotten too darn pricey lately!

Drain-o.

Seriously, though, It's fine if you're making strawberry margaritas or something equally overpowering. Also acceptable for a Tequila Sunrise. Anything else, youmight as well be drinking ligheter fluid.

The so called "Gold Tequiilas" only have to be 51% Tequilla and the rest grain alcohol. They're not even aged. The gold color comes from food coloring.

Step up to a blanco, and you're 100% Blue Agave. Reposado and Anejo have to do withthe amount of aging. If your drinking it straight, or mixing it with something that's not super strong, the difference in taste is very noticiable. I find Cuervo Gold rather harsh. Reserva de la Famillia, now that's a different story.

As I said before, I've found Sauza Gold to be tastier for the lower end stuff.

Was going to suggest the infamous Sunrise myself.

I ruined myself many many years ago shoothing the worm at a surf bar in NYC during one LONG new years. I can't touch the stuff anymore.

Strictly speaking, there is not a tequilla made with a worm in it. Monte Albon Mezcal is the culprit. It doesn't even qualify as tequiila, as it's from not from the region and is not made from agave. The worm is a marketing gimmick that they came up with to add mystique (nystique=confusion) to this sub-standard product. The only reason that stuff sold at all was the stoners all confused "Mescal" with "Mescaline" and though they were going to trip when they drank it.

Swearing off Tquilla becase you had a bad hangover from drinking Mescal is analogous to swearing off Cognac because you woke up with a big head after drinking "Old Mr. Boston: Brandy.

I should clarify.....We knew the worm was a gimmick and would do nothing so we shot it many many times in one night. The next morning I knew I was done with anything that smelled like tquilla.
