March will determine the season. If its like last march, with no snow, It will be a another really subpar season.

The mansfield snow stake is tracking more or less 2020-2021 through 2/16. A few inches shy.

If march delivers, then It could be upgraded to average. We can't have 2 consecutive years with no snow in march can we?

Narrator: yes we can

Go to the drop down menu and look at 2015-2016. That is the terrible season to which all others are compared, and we've already surpassed it this year (if only for a short stretch). Tonight will probably take us down to its level though, so I agree with NY DirtBag that we'll need a big March.

10-day forecast after tonight is showing an active pattern with multiple systems aimed our way... Temps and precip type could still go either way, but it's looking active.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
15-16 isn't the baseline of bad seasons... that was a once-a-century type of event lol. 81" at Killington that season. Unfathomably low. The next worst seasons I'm aware of are 150" seasons... usually once every 30ish years, most recently '11-'12 they got only 152". One year in the 80s they got 130".

That was the one with the Halloween storm and then no more snow until last week of Feb?

I wanna say that was 2011-12. Pretty terrible overall with that all-time dump at the end of Feb as an outlier. Then it was summerlike for a couple weeks in March IIRC.

That one season heavenly topped out at 78 inches for the year takes the cake for me.
The past month or so has been good soft snow at least in nh. I just took my last turns for several days at crotched and they seem to have built up some snow to hopefully combat the incoming bullshit. Fingers crossed for March..I'm getting out of here for a while next week and going west somewhere

And just like a bad penny I'm back again haven't been around in a long time 🤪

I woke up this morning to a effen gully washer that had me taking my life in my hands just walking a damn trash can out to the end of our driveway for pickup

So conditions for the weekend are definitely going to suck welcome to the winter that wasn't 😵💫

A few years ago (18-19?) we had a horrible February with a weeklong meltdown that destroyed the snowpack in the east.

Then we got 6' of snow in March and April. I believe that was the year winter storm Riley came through.

I'm hoping for that and I'm not paying attention to skiers out west forecasting weather in the east. Sorry ss20.

Huh. And I thought you blew all that money so that you can come back to great snow in the east!

The kingslug effect.

Looking at the models, am I wrong (sure hope I am) to think this might create about the most dangerous conditions possible?

You get bad rain followed immediately by cold temps to turn it to ice, then with a quick hit dusting of back-end snow to barely cover up the ice with an inch or two so you cant even see it, and all on the busiest of holiday (i.e. noob skiers) weekends to boot. This is how fatalities happen.

nothing is as bad as 15-16 for sure. If vail had owned mount snow at the time they would have had 3 trails from the top!

that's right march of 2020 was colder and snowy... thanks pandemic.

My last Ski Tracks log at Wildcat from 15/16 season - the worst snow in recent memory - was April 17.

Last season it was April 11th. I wonder what changed?
