You need to tuck those knees when your hucking. Your flailing way to much.

That and keeping your weight forward usually are the biggest challenges. The natural tendancy is to lean back and straighten up, especially in the east because the landings are ussually tight in the trees and the thought is to try and dump speed as quick as possible when you land.

I rarely 'huck' anything these days as I'm not on the hill enough to be as confident with that aspect of skiing as I once was. 'Back in the day' when I did huck more, when I didn't stick the landings it was because of being too upright threw the air and being in the back seat when I landed.

I definitely have a problem of staying too far back.

I too love the backseat and constantly take it when I'm landing... for the reasons DHS mentioned. I try to get rid of the habit but whatever, it's the air that's fun.

Austin let me know when you're going for a huckfest... I've been passing up on tons of hucks cuz I'm solo in the woods a lot and don't feel like causing a SAR and chewing on wood.

For soft, open landings I agree that being in the back seat isn't a huge deal.. But I'm scared to attempt any tight landings in the woods, because I know that I don't land in a way that would allow me to make quick, controlled turns to avoid obstacles.

Love that drop, how were the woods today Austin?

Very crusty. Stuff that was completely skied out was pretty good, but untracked was scary. Also, there is too much base, I kept whacking my head against branches. The gondi line and the quad line were pretty sweet though once they saw enough traffic. They will probably be even better today.

But to show that it's not always that way - actually the eating of fecal matter was pretty low for awf that day:

I watch these and I wonder ... I get hurt falling down a stupid groomer, you guys huck yourselves off everything possible and walk away. Cool stuff, though. I'm jealous. I want to ski trees eventually but at the rate I'm going, it'll be a while.

Groomers are much harder ground then what it usually found in the trees. We had some breakable crust with at least 1' sugary snow underneath to land on.

Indeed...

Though, in fairness, I did get a few good ones today. This one from Liftline looks downright steezy, if I may say so myself. I can even vouch for you that the landing was stuck. Gotta give you credit... as much as I was loving Tower 10 cliffs and taking some really nice airs... I opted for photo duty on the last run of the day at 5:10pm when you decided to drop Tower 5.
