We should start a poll. Which is worse - Denim Daredevils or those in fluorescent all in one romper suits?

I always harkin back to this picture I took a Attitash last winter..
Nice jeans, old boots and skis... bindings that a technician can't legally touch

Hey that's me in the picture! Notice that the jeans are dry because I haven't fallen or I would have cut of a hand or my nose when the ski tips came around like a helicopter because of the leashes. Leashes work great in powder, but fluffy powder isn't common at Attitash. Any body can look great on shaped skis and modern boots.

I gotta tell you - the dude was a pretty good retro-style skier... Looked like we all did in 1982.... Legs pinned together - "lean into the valley" style...

Vano - If you're serious... I understand the constrains of a budget, but cotton does not breathe like tech fibers and it retains moisture, making you more likely to have cold-related issues. It's not a fashion statement or a status symbol for me... when I ski, I make sure to wear appropriate clothing. And I didn't spend a fortune on it. I'd rather enjoy my day skiing than go home with a frostbitten bum.

I ski in jeans.

If I am going to ski on a Sunday at Butternut and I am attending church service in the am, I wear jeans to church. I put on a pair of non insulated wind pants over the jeans. I do this when I am running late to meet people at Butternut after church.

The temperature has to be in the 20's to low 40's. If it is two cold or warm, jeans do not work for me.

I ski in jeans all the time and, frankly, I don't approve of this thread in any way, shape or form!

Not everyone can afford fancy nilon pants from Columbia. Some of us have families and large dogs to feed! Between pickup trucks, mud tires for the winter and hunting supplies, I don't have much money left for ski gear. So if its a choice between not skiing and skiing with jeans on, you know which one I will pick.

Jeans can also be very comfortable. They breathe much better than the "super high tech" nylon clothes - even those G-Tex ones. And nobody here can judge what is stylish and what is not. When I am on the hill, I am there to ski, not make a fashion statement.

Also, the Starter jacket posts are pretty rude. I have a number of jackets that could use for skiing but I regularly choose my Buffalo Bills NFL starter jacket because I support my team!!
I think and hope you're kidding. But you are from Jersey so who knows

Now you have a problem with Joisey? I was kidding - I guess I was a bit too subtle with the jokes. I was stereotyping that everyone that skis in jeans is a shotgun slingin, doberman raisin, monster truck drivin member of the American WT community.

I think the problem was seeing those comments from someone from Joisey. The comments would make sense to me if you're from the Pine Barrens, though.

Going back on topic, I'll admit I skiied in jeans a few times as a beginner. A few falls certainly taught me that it was a mistake...

Back in the late 90s when I first started skiing, I thouht that the guys that skied in jeans were extra cool. I thought it was the cool thing to do, but you had to be:

a) a real man - not afraid of the cold
b) a great skier - not worried about falling and getting wet

One day I will achieve such nirvana myself!

You know them, easily recognizeable by a myriad of distinguishing features...

The full on rental gear, the snowplowing, the totally out of control speed on the steeps, the half bent over tuck attempt with the poles under the armpits sticking up like to radio antennae, the 15 year old jacket with the obligatory sports team colors and logo, usually BC or the Patriots-

And of course, their namesake, straight from Mr. Levi himself, the half wet spotted denim pants, scrunched up at the top of the rental boots too thick to neither go inside nor outside the boot.

Yes, you've stumbled upon our old friend, the Double D, aka the Denim Daredevil!

This was a phrase I coined last ski season. Less common the further north one travels, always a delight to watch provided you're clear of their path (as well as small children).

So remember folks, give him a wave and a very wide birth. This breed of skier needs no introduction.

Don't forget that they are very often found terrozing the great white north without a hat on, no goggles on - tears streaming down there face and the Starter Jacket is almost always left wide open exposing their favorite Van Halen or Boston T-shirt worn over a white waffle print long underwear shirt.

and ofcourse the true denim daredevils top it all off with the perfect mullet.

Though not as warm, Starter Jackets are not as bad as jeans.

I guess I'll take (but never wear) either on the slopes as long as the people are on the slope. Even a jeans wearing, Starter Jacketed person helps to keep the ski areas open and the lifts turning.

A few years back now, a local ski shop had ski pants that looked like jeans (well sort of) that they were selling.

I do agree with what teachski says below:

They do... And ultimately they will come in sooner due to their choice... So that leaves more trail for us...

No good can come from wearing jeans while skiing.. :D
Unless you got a picture perfect day with no precip.. It's just a really bad choice.. On a lot of levels...

Ah, but those ski pants were not made to look like the tight fitting Levi 501s being worn by a middle aged man with a saggy butt.

Those ski pants were designed for the double-P I guess. The Park Punks. The dudes hanging out at the top of the terrain park with sweet 7 foot chains attaching their pants to their wallet that still has the driver's license holster empty. These species sit at the top of the park for hours straight, just looking cool and saying things like "yo, dude, gnarly, b.tch, f..k, rad, awesome, we're better than you". Their favorite activity is making fun of me when I try to take the kiddie jump and crash.
